Getting a "complimentary" panniculectomy with a hsyterectomy

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy on April 13th. I spoke with the surgeon about a penniculectomy and he said he has done quite a few and said he would do one on me even though I'm not at goal (about 50 more pounds to do) and would "just not get reimbursed for it". He said cost was not even an issue. He is willing to do it without getting paid. Has anyone ever heard of this before? I also have a call into the hospital. The doc may be willing to accept $0 for the penniculectomy, but the hospital, anesthesiologst, etc. may not be so generous! :frown:

Yes, my doctor was going to do it for me as well. Several women I work with had it done too. Long story short, I ended up going to another doctor because he couldn't fit me in for a few months and I was in too much pain to wait. However, my new doctor ended up diolated me and I didn't have to be cut. But I've decided when My ovaries need to come out, I'm going back to the other doc to have him give me a little nip and tuck. But he told them not to mention it to the hospital because they would charge them extra for it, he would just do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
