Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Similar Situation?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for someone similar to myself, preferably post-op. I'm 5'7", 302 lbs, from Texas, have PCOS. I need to lose 166 lbs to be okay according to the BMI, which yes I know isn't accurate.

My circumstances aren't really the same as you.. I'm 5'9", ahve lost 82 pounds, but still weigh 305, and don't have PCOS....but my daughter does... When did you have surgery? What stage of this are you in? There is a great thread out there with lots of posts about the band and PCOS .... You may get some help there.. I wish you good luck...

I've seen the thread, and it's VERY discouraging. After reading it I feel like I am never in my life going to get to my ideal weight.

I'm very sorry you feel this way... Not being in your shoes I'm sure I see things differntly.. I did go and re-read all the posts including my own, and lots of them have had positive results with weight loss and with getting pregnant.. None of this is easy, with or without PCOS.... I started at 387 and that's a big obstacle to overcome at my age.. But I have to do it one pound at a time... I'm very pleased that it is going well for me, but not without my problems... I've had my share both before and after the surgery.. But I keep on trying becasue I'm not a failure until I give up entirely.. When did you get banded? Do you have any children now? How old are you? What does your doctor say about all of this? They must have been positive about things or you wouldn't have been approved for surgery... I sure hope you can get out of this down mood and let the band work for you.... It takes time to find the "sweet spot", as it is called. I still haven't found it.. I have 8 cc's in my 14 cc band. I go for another fill next Monday.. I'm hoping that will be the one that does the trick for me. But if not, I'll have to keep trying.. The alternative is to give up and I refuse to do that.... Please try to keep your chin up and let me know if I can help you in some way.. Best wishes to you....

I'm not banded yet. If all goes well I will be banded in July. I'm 23. I am going to an endocrinologist sometime soon to find a treatment for my PCOS that will actually work. I was on 500mg twice a day, it didn't do jack, then I went up to 1000mg twice a day, that didn't do anything, so I've stopped taking metformin until I see the endo.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
