Any Cruisers??

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone-

I am going on my first cruise with my lap band. Does anyone have any tips for me? I am just about at restriction and I go in tomorrow for a fill/ check up. I am not the type of person who will get a bit of a unfill to go on a cruise. I am not going to eat my way through vacation. I have worked too hard to get where I am today.

Thanks for the tips.

Don't do a fill before the cruise. Allow at least 3 weeks if you do. Better yet get one after the cruise.

Oh you will love your cruise. I am a cruiseaholic and have been on 4 since being banded. Suggestions would be take some crystal light on the go packs. If you like ice tea most ships have them available all day at their buffet resturants. At sit down dinner it's hard to just order the entree, but try or else you can over eat. Sometimes salad seems okay but it's easy to over eat watch out for the bread bowl.(my down fall) At the buffets remember Protein first, there is always lots of choices for Protein. Good luck and enjoy.

Summ08,

Okay where are you going? I can't wait I leave for mine on April 8. I'm going to see the pyramids at last maybe ride a camel too. Then off to Italy and check out the cities there. It will be different cause usually I am in the caribbean. I love the caribbean.

Enjoy your time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
