Hi My name is Jon I am a 23yo blk male from dallas Texas I am 6'0 370 pounds I have tried to lose weight but every time I lose a pound or two I always gain it back and more. I have reading into the lap band surgery for about a year now, I feel that my health is getting bad and I am still a young man I cant walk 10 feet and my lower back starts hurting. I am going to the lap band solutions seminar next tuesday and I dont know what to expect I really want to look into having the surgery but I think its the whole operation that scares me. Can you tell how you felt about the operation and what things happen at the seminar I really want to lose the weight and I just want the support of other to know that I am doing the right thing.

Thanks Guys

Jon:smile:

I'm a 54 year old 5'5" female who weighed 405 when I went to my seminar. I WISH I would have had this option at 23 years old! Just listen close, see if you can follow the rules....like following a preop diet if you're given one, following your doc's post op rules about what you can eat when, avoiding sodas and beer because of the carbonation...and exercising some every day. If you want this badly enough to modify any behaviors like carbonated bevs etc, then go for it!

The surgery for me was fast and relatively painless. It's been great and I'd do it again in a snap.

Jon, at the seminar they will probablly tell you all that you can expect from pre-op to life after the band. I was very nervous about the whole surgery thing too. You will have to do some testing before the surgey though. I had to have a upper endoscopy (they put you asleep for). Abdominal ultra sound and blood work. All of these aren't to bad either. It is really worth all the things you have to do. I have been banded for almost 3 months, lost 28 lbs and would do it all again! Your recovery time isn't bad either. I was feeling almost 100% 2 weeks after. Good Luck with your journey!

Jon,

You are on the right track. LapBand has given so many a new lease on life. If you read the threads on this site, you will see a lot of success stories. The band seems to work for most, although it doesn't work for all.

If you are committed to some behavior changes, which the band makes easier than you might think, then I say GO FOR IT! You have your whole life ahead of you and you deserve to live it, not sit on the sidelines.

Best of luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
