Okay, this is probably TMI but here goes. I am scheduled for surgery at 7:15 in the morning. I have been on the preop diet for 10 days. I had totally forgotten that I was supposed to do Milk of Magnesia today for a bowel prep at 10, 2 and 6. I just remembered and took the first dose at 3:15. If I am off schedule with this a bit do you think it will have an effect on my surgery?

My husband is a nurse (not a doc) who worked in a GI lab for years. He said to take dose #2 at 515 and dose #3 at 815. It is important to take it all, if your doc told you to. That should work, ok? If you are in doubt you can call your doc's emergency number, but finishing up at 815 should still give you time to clear out your system and be done with the drug by 715 tomorrow morning.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the help. I'm already nervous enough about tomorrow's procedure I don't know how I could have forgotten this!!

Just because some don't have to take it doesn't mean the rest of us don't (as I'm sure the other posters know!) I had to drink glasses of mag citrate (too vile for words! LOL) so I know your pain. I'm sure you've been focused on the surgery and beyond!

You'll do great! :crying: Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
