Bloating and Gas...how do I get rid of it?

Recommended Posts

I am the same way - this is day 5 for me and my shoulders are still really sore from the gas....the gas X strips seems to help me get the gas moving downward (if you know what I mean) but the pain is still there, tho dwindling. My doc said to walk and to rock in a rocking chair as it helps move the gas, too......this too shall pass! Hang in there!

Oh, annetteleon, my heart goes out to you!

I don't have any advice that can help (I'm guessing you are taking Gas-X or some other gas relief medication?).

People react so differently to the surgery, but take heart, it will soon all dissipate!

Hope you get some relief soon! :smile2:

I understand what you are going through. I was banded on 3-23-09 and the gas pains were horrible and I just cried. Your best friends right now is gonna be Gas-X strips, they disolve on your tongue and they work better than the tablets. I used to take 3 at a time and it would help tremdously. As far as having a bowel movement, I took pericolase (walmart has a generic brand that works just as good) and this helped alot too. Hang in the it is all worth it. It was 3 months band for me yesterday and I am down 57lbs and have not felt this good in 16 years.

Keep us updated!!!

I am so glad you posted this. I got banded on the 2nd November and the gas has been almost unbearable. I have been walking and trying everything to get rid of this gas. I have tried Mylanta and that is no good. I have been walking but the gas hurts me and I can only walk short distances. I am in Australia and my chemist doesn't even have Gas-X! How uncultured are we! I am going to try Gasbusters and hopefully it will do...something!

I was banded over a year ago and from what I remember the ONLY way to get of the gas they pump into you is to walk your little butt off...just get up and walk that is the only thing that helped...it doesn't help right away but from what I remember there was no magic pill that got rid of that gas they pump into you....

Now if you have been banded longer and it is way past the gas they fill you up with I use Gas-x it is a lifesaver, I have tons of gas...also I know this might sound gross but if you have gass don't be embarrassed get it out..regardless of however it comes out do not hold it in..it will only makes things worse...my husband just thinks I am a walking gas machine but I don't hurt from gas and well he is ok with it..good luck and hope the gas goes away soon it is very painful I know..

I don't know if its a coincidence or not but i looked up alternative therapies for gas after STILL having crippling gas/shoulder pain and tried out the acupressure points they suggested and now the gas I'm getting is going out through the proper channels instead of migrating to my shoulder. Woot! Of course i've also been doing chamomile and peppermint teas and gas-x but for some reason after doing acupressure i haven't had shoulder pain so far!

Put this in the "wont hurt might help" file:

lay down measure three finger lengths down from navel. Press down on spot with index finger release while exhaling

find spot four fingers up from your inside ankle bone. press down

find spot four fingers down from your knee on the outside edge of your shin. flex your foot. the muscle that bulges is where you press down

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
