Bloating and Gas...how do I get rid of it?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on March 19th. I am still very bloated and the gas pain bothers me more than anything. I have been out walking every day. I am soo bloated I can only wear pants with elastic because I can't even button any pants. Yesterday, I finally relieved more gas but I am still very bloated and full of gas...Is there anything else anyone did to get over this?

I was told the sooner I got up and walking it would subside but I have been walking everyday and it still sits there.

I know you said your walking ....which is exactly what you should be doing but you gotta walk, walk, walk and walk some more...Oh and GAS-X strips the kind that dissolve in your mouth those will help...Also every DR. is different but if your allowed warm liquids that helped me ALOT.... Good luck with you band!

I was banded march 16th, I had terrible gas pains for the first 4 days, Im only on day 6 now, but the gas has let up a bit. Also like the previous poster said, GAX-X strips saved my life!!! Walking also helped, but not quite as much as I thought it was going to.

I tried those Gas x strips and they did not help...they say the gas is from the gas they have to pump into you for the surgery it's not like "regular" intestinal gas. I finally asked the doc and he said walking and time....ughh. So I have been walking as much as possible, but I have had another lap surgery and did not have bloating and gas like this.

Thanks for the advice though!

As goofy as it sounds I have been finding that standing straight up, then bending straight forward a few times helps.

Also, being in the "child's pose" (yoga) on the bed for a while seems to help...that is if it's not too uncomfortable with the new band pain.

Also have been "biking" my legs while lying down as you would with a baby who has gas. These all work but with minor results.

I am on the 5th day post surgery and still having some trouble. I too have been trying to walk it out with only some results and gas x strips don't seem to do much (probably for the reasons you mentioned).

Good luck with it!

DeLytfulD,

I was banded a week ago yesterday. I wasn't miserable with gas until I started drinking Isopure Protein suppliments and chocolate Unjury protein suppliment. Believe me, I feel your pain. I just got home from the pharmacy from buying chewable Gas-X (125 mg smiethecone). I sure hope it helps!

Moondust the Isopure gives me gas. I stopped drinking it for a day and the gas went away. Then I drank it again and the gas came back so I stopped drinking it. It made the gas very bad. I bought a bunch of it and don't know what to do with it. I look at it and burp.

I thought it was just me...I wondered if this happened to anyone else...The chocolate drinks don't give me gas. Test it out and tell me what you think.

itschoice,

I just bought 7 bottles of Isopure to get me through this week. I suppose I'll suffer through until it's gone since I paid $3.99 for ea. 20 oz. bottle. I have another week of full liquids then I'll be able to get some Protein from food. Sadly, at that cost, I'll litterally "suffer" through. I will say the Gas-X chewables did offer some relief. I'll just be glad when I can actually be able to push some of this gas out myself when the port site won't be so tender. It's been 8 days and it's still pretty touchy.

Dannylu,

I haven't walked so much in 2 years. The gas is a great motivater, lol! Right now I am walking with a cane. I need a knee replacement but the surgeon won't touch my knee with all this weight, thus....my decision to have lap band. I have walked three times a day since this surgery just to help get some confort with all this gas. No telling what I'm doing to my knee.

I'm on day three at home and was up half the night with the gas pain and a rumbling, tumbling tummy. I was finally able to "fart" (please excuse if that is rude) and that has helped some to relieve it. I will have my hubby go to the store and get some gas x too. I do walk a lot. Othewise I'm feeling good.

Lois Ruth, The Gas-X should offer some relief. I'm glad you're feeling good otherwise.

Moondust I wish I could tough it out like you. I bought a case and the gas pain they give me just is not worth any amount of money.

I can not wait till this part is over. Even with how unpleasent all of this is I would do it 10 times over. I am so excited for my new beginning that all the Gas is worth it!!:smile2:

Seannie,

Christi6933,

Congrats on your new beginning! Gas-X chewables are helping me a lot along with a lot of walking. Right now I know the real gas culprit for me are the Protein suppliments. I am hoping that as I am able get more of my Protein from food that it lessens. I am nearing the end of my second week on full liquids and starting some soft foods. We'll see!

I hope you coninue to do well and get rid of that gas!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
