Hello all. I was banded on March 17th. Everything went fine but for the past couple of days my stomach has been making strange noises and today these gas pains are killing me. I've been walking around and taking gas-x but nothing is working.

the strips aren't going to work unless the gas is in your stomach. You probably have the pain from the air trapped in your body from the surgery. I took liquid tylenol and it helped a little bit. Also moving around helped me, if I was up for a long time, just laying down or laying on one side helped me out a lot. It will go away for you soon and you will feel so much better. some others have also used heating pads to aid in the discomfort. Best of luck to you!!

Hi Mia-

I was banded on St. Patrick's Day as well and I also had the rumbling stomach. I am on full liquids until Sunday 28- so creamed Soups are my big food for now. I realized my growling stomach wanted food even though I was drinking Protein Shakes. I added a few extra calories and fat to my diet by drinking 2% milk, instead of skim and I also sprinkled some shredded cheddar cheese on top of my creamed soups. this really helped me alot. I will use the low fat versions of the food once I go to a full diet in 3 weeks. I am no doctor trying to alter your diet suggested by your surgeon, but, these few changes made a big difference in my stomach growling and satisfied me. Good Luck!

I was also banded on the 17th and I am still having the gas. I was re-banded due to a slip so I know it will go away soon. How long are you on liquids for?

Hi, miaj410!

Count me in as being "banded" on the 17th also. I started having the same "growling" sounds a few days ago. Gas-X is now my friend, thanks to the Protein suppliments that are causing so much gas.

rachel75, jennibells & bandofhope,

How cool that we were all banded on St. Patrick's Day? Are you all doing okay?

I'm doing pretty good. I took last week off of work, and I return Monday. I still have port pain but I'm doing pretty good. How about you? :)

Hi, Rachael75!

I'm doing okay. I am still a bit tender where my port is with an occasional sensation of needle pricks when I lean to the left or walk to much (must be the fat pulling?). Other than that I'm slow moving but much better than I'd expected. Luckily, my Dr. is giving me an 2 addtional weeks off to get strong. My husband is having a knee replacement the day after my four week appt. I am assuming that I will get my first fill then. I'm a bit anxious with all of this happening at once. I also need a knee replacement and am walking with a cane. The pain is the great motivater for the lap band. I think I may take a bit longer to be up to par because of that situation.

miaj410, I did not mean to hi-jack your thread.

jennibells & bandofhope, I am truly interested in your progress.

I am feeling great and ready to re-start this journey! I feel almost back to 100% except for the port area. I know that will get better over time but it still bugs me. I cannot wait until I am off of liquids, it is drving me crazy smelling all this food around me!!!

How are you guys doing? Everybody feeling good?

jennibells, I hear ya! As I type my husband has a pretty good smelling pizza in the oven. I am not a bit hungry but that smell is enticing.

I was banded on the 19th and same thing was happening to me--------the gas pains were there totally....then I realized I was just really getting hungry. So you should be able to eat something and by the end of the day the pains should be gone.

How is everyone doing? I am doing okay. I went back to work yesterday. I did okay --just pretty sore by the time I get home. To me the pain is right around the port area. It feels like side splits like I used to get when running. Just wanted to see how everyone else banded on the 17th was doing. Hope you all are well....Take Care...Rachel

Rachel-

I am doing good. The only area that is sore is around my port.

I am on soft/ mushy food and I am starving!!! I hate this feeling, I cannot wait until my first fill!!!

rachel75 & jennibells, I'm glad you're doing good.

miaj410 & bandofhope, How about you?

I did go to the Dr. for the 2 week appt. yesterday. I saw one of the PA's. She's decided not to do my first fill at 4 weeks since I will have so much going on with my husband at that time. Its now scheduled for April 23rd. (The day before my birthday, lucky me!) She said she would numb me before the fill (good to know.)

I did lose 9 lbs. I wish it had been more but I'm happy. Rough way to lose 9 lbs., huh? lol!

She said I can eat regular foods now, as tolerated. I have been on mushies for almost a week. I kind of feel rushed through this process. I went to several classes and read the guide book they gave us where you don't even eat soft foods until the 2nd week. I think they need to update their material.

I told her I actually feel weaker now than I did a week out. She said some people do, my body is still adjusting to the surgery and the change in nutrition. (Perhaps my age plays into this too. She didn't say.)

I also rode a recumbant bike for a mile (slowly) and my sides are aching like crazy. She said it's because the port is attached to the same muscle that is moving. What was I thinking? I'm more sore from that than I anticpated because I was biking very slowly.

All in all, I feel like I am doing ok!

Moondust-

It sounds like you had a good appointment. I did not have extreme weight loss the first time around nor this time, only 6 lbs in the last two weeks, but I do know that I loose slower than most and I did loose an average of a pound a week so I am happy with slow and steady! It is hard not to compare ourselves with some people who loose 20-30 lbs in the first week or two but as long as we are loosing than we are on the right path:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
