Stomach virus or something's wrong with my band

Recommended Posts

Help! I've had this odd dizziness and nausea and can't tell if I'm sick or if there is something wrong with my band.

I was banded on 2/24 and have been following the doctor's orders religiously. I eat no more than a cup of very soft food but most "meals" I can only eat about 1/2 cup.

Since Thursday, I've been dizzy and feeling like crap. I vomited on Friday after 1/2 cup of cream of asparagus Soup. I haven't eat much since then and still feel gross.

Does anyone have any thoughs about whether I could have done something to my band or did I merely catch a bug from my kids?

Thanks for your help.

It sounds more like you've just got a bug. If there was something wrong with your band you'd probably so restricted you wouldn't be able to get fluids down at all. That being said, it is imperative that you do everything possible to avoid throwing up with your new band -- the stitches keeping it in place are not healed yet.

While you're sick stick with bland foods, no grease and no milk products!! Do you have any phenergan in the house? Your doc may have prescribed it for you after surgery. Or talk the pharmacist about the best OTC med for nausea.

Sorry you are feeling bad, I had a bug about a month ago and got dehydrated real quick. I think it was harder recovering from dehydration than the bug, so make sure that you get plenty to drink.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
