new Anthem Insurance..maybe it will happen THIS TIME?

Recommended Posts

About a year ago I went to LapBand appt...I was qualified, yet UHC didn't cover it (my plan) However...now I am on Anthem..is there any users out there that have or had Anthem and your thought on that?

I will call insurance to see if it's covered, but I thought I would check here as well to see if I can get a heads up.

Thanks in advance

Angie

All insurance companies cover bariatric surgery on some policies. It all depends on the employers and whether they choose to exclude it. If you have the same employer, a lot of times they keep that WLS exclusion when changing insurance providers. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

depends on your employer and the contract with Anthem. My employer had Anthem and it did not cover. I switched to my wife's plan this year, also through Anthem, but she works for a hospital, their plan did cover it. The hospital is pro- surgery since they know the benefits.

There is a rider that each contract can either choose or decide not to cover. They see it as an option for an "elective" surgery. Good luck, hope your covers.

my doctors office had a person who would verify insurance and give a quick answer on if you were covered or other options. They would know how to phrase it so if it is covered, they get the right answer. I've heard of some on here who were told it did not cover over the phone, later found out it was covered. I'd ask a surgeon's office to check.

doctors office submitted paperwork in my case, heard answer in just under one week. They said it usually takes one week, they're generally conservative so you don't call them daily.

I have anthem, I have the Lumenous HSA 1500 PPO package. I called Anthem & was told it is a covered procedure. Hopefully there isn't any kind of exclusion on my employers part.

My surgeons office just submitted all my paperwork yesterday. I too am on pins & needles waiting for the response. Dr. said it usually takes 3-5 days to hear back.:smile2: if i do get approved in the next week they have an opening at the COE required by anthem on May 7th. So that is hopefully my surgery day.

Good luck to you all and good luck to me!!:sneaky:

I got the obesity rider anthem required to cover WLS, however, they are telling me that they will not cover the pysch eval or the nutrionist. Anyone else run into this?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
