Does everyone take vitamins?

Recommended Posts

This is a second-hand story, so take it with a grain of salt. My cubicle buddy at work has a sister with the band. He told me that she became very very ill with a Vitamin D deficiency. He said she should have been taking supplements but did not. She is only now able to walk again, but lost her job as an attorney because her short-term memory has never completely returned. I thought this sounded horrifying, but yet he seemed to believe it was all preventable. Now obviously we need to be eating right, but I wondered if any one knew about other experiences like this, or if maybe you can let me know what your doctor told you about taking Vitamin supplements, getting the proper nutrition etc. I just am trying to still get a better idea of the things I will need to do to make sure I stay healthy after the band, not just thin.

Thanks!<O:p</O:p

There is NO MALABSORBTION (spelling?) With the band. Unlike RNY. So as long as you are eating a well rounded diet there should be no need to worry about a lack of Vitamins. That being said I was told even before I was banded to always have one Multi-Vitamin per day. And I do. We typically DO NOT eat a well rounded diet & thus a supplement is needed.

I take a Multivitamin daily, as prescribed in the lil information book they gave me post op.

Took a while to find one I could take, as I wanted one specifically for women, but finally found one that's easy to swallow (no getting stuck), with a few extra herbs and stuff for things like pms pain, stress, etc.

I take the diet smart (generic) or weight control multivitamin/dietary supplement everyday. Since I got banded I have had to cut them in half, so I take half in the morning and half at lunch. I don't know if I will be able to continue to take them after I get filled. I may have to go to Flintstones.

I take a multi and a B-complex supplement every day. I've been doing this (with additional C if I think I'm getting a cold) for more than 20 years. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
