I have a friend that wears underwire and she couldn't for a couple of months post op. It's now been a little over a year now that she had the surgery and she is fine wearing underwire. I personally don't wear it so I am not sure. That is one thing she told me going in to have surgery, don't take an underwire bra with you. Maybe it's differnt for everyone.

I wear underwire bras as well. I could not wear them for at least two to three months. I just got some sports bras and that did just fine. Of course you aren't as lifted and separated as you would be with an underwire but the pain is a factor to consider.

Hi-

I had no problems with my underwire after surgery- my port is lower on my tummy-like the middle- above belly button- below the twins.

The only incicsion that I was careful with was the one in the middle right below my twins- it was very tiny- but I wore the bras that didn't touch it for a few weeks-

I know everyones bodies and incision placement is different- you may want to ask your doc- where your port would be.

Take care

I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!

it all depends on where your port is. If your doc wants to place it on your sternum, you might want to talk to your doc about a different placement for the port. My husband's port is on his sternum, but he doesn't wear a bra.

My port is on my right-front side, and I'm very large busted. I don't have any issues with anything rubbing my port.

I couldn't wear my bras(which are underwire also) for 6 weeks after surgery. My port is just above my belly button & only slightly to the right hand side. My bra sits about 4"s above it- No problems at all:0)

I took a sports bra to the hospital to wear home but didn't need it. I was able to wear my regular underwire bra the same day as my surgery. My port is to the left of my navel and about 4 inches above it. I had some problems with high waisted jammie pants but that is all better now too and thursday is 4 weeks for me. I would suggest having both types of bras available just in case, the sports bras will be good to wear to the gym after you are healed. ~Mandy

I have trouble wearing a tight bra, I don't wear underwire, but even just a tight bra is uncomfortable for me right now, I am only 3 weeks out, but when I tried on my regular bra the other day, I felt sore, so I have been sticking to the stretchable bras (Sports bra type) and they have worked out fine. Actually for a few days after the surgery I wore nothing, but I was home and could do that. Good Luck Walmart is a good place to buy those stretchable bras.

My port is way below my bra line.... about 4-5inches, so it is no problem for me. I couldn't wear an underwire for about 2 weeks though because of the tiny top incision, and I had to keep it covered because I was (and still am) on blood thinning meds and the bra rubbed a bit - it didn't hurt but it kept making it bleed.

My port is on my waistline, so no bra trouble for me. I can't wear things that are TOO tight or it bothers it (even a year out), but then I don't wear stuff that tight normally anyway.

I wear an underwire, I wore one home from the hospital ( I had to wear one) and had no problems. Perhaps you could tell your doctor that you wear underwire, I believe that they had several options of where they put the port.
