2nd Fill Tomorrow...Gaining

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on January 16, my first fill on Feb 27th (1.5cc) and tomorrow is my 2nd fill. Up until 4 weeks ago I was losing weight steadily, all together about 24lbs. After I got the fill, it seemed like I could eat more. I don't really understand it. I am also getting hungry a lot quicker than before. I am not eating anything different than I was before, just more at each meal.

I know all about bandster hell, but this is HARD. I want to eat so much! I have gained about 3lbs since my first fill and I guess I am just looking for some guidance or inspiration. Maybe even a little motivation. :tongue_smilie:

Can't offer anything magical. We all would rather have something more concrete than the advice i have but: Just be patient. The first fill rarely does it. On average it takes 4 to really start feeling it. Do you have to wait a full month to get another fill?

tara: my first fill worked for about 3 weeks and i started to get hungry more and wanting to eat more. The way they exolain it to me is it is like filling up something empty and it just takes time to fill it up. I know that isn't much help but everyone is different we all have our different sweet spots. I will go for my second fill on wednesday i haven't lost as much as the first it is going slow but i do go up and down too. Just hang in there we will reach out sweet spot and the weight will come off. I do walk on the treadmill and takes walks and play basketball. look how far you have come so far that is an accomplishment in it its self. way to go .

TaraBell, I could have written your post! I was banded on 1/14 and had my first fill on 2/23. I have barely lost an inch in the 4 weeks since the fill.....my next fill is Monday. Just hang in there, we will get that good restriction that we need so badly!

What everyone else has said is so true. I had my 5th fill this month to finally get good restriction. Each fill will build on the previous. It does take some time. I gained and lost the same 5 pounds for quite a while between fills. It will come. Good luck!

Thanks so much for all the replies. I really appreciate everyone's advice. <3

I went to get my 2nd fill today and it went very well. I explained everything to my surgeon and he decided that instead of the 1cc he was planning on giving me, that he would give me 2ccs. He's a funny guy, he said "I was going to bump it to 1.5 but since you are whining I will give you 2." LOL I am so happy I love my dr.

He did tell me that it is normal to eat more after your first fill because you are slowly getting your appetite back and able to eat more. Also, that the first fill doesnt really do anything..lol.

As for the time in between fills, my surgeon tells me to wait two weeks after my fill and to call him anytime I think I need one - but no later than 2 months. So, its pretty much up to me and how I think I am doing.

thanks again!

Hello Tarabell, I did the same thing after I got my band..My weight would go up and down until now. I was getting aggravated and very discouraged. I have a 10cc standard band and at my last fill it gave me 7 cc's and now I am at my sweet spot. I have to be very careful what I put in my mouth because usually after 3 bites of food I am finished or PB. I am really starting to see a difference. I quit going by my scales. I have been going by my measurements and the way my clothes fill.. Some people get restricted right away and some of us just has to wait for our sweet spot but you will get there..Good Luck..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
