Hi

I'm booked to have surgery with Dr Nottle on 2 June. Since having booked I'm both terrified and excited. All I seem to have seen since I saw dr Nottle is negative reports about lapbanding.

I believe i'm doing the right thing but do worry still anyway.

oh and i'm a total amateur at this forum stuff

Where have you seen the negative reports? Is it from a reliable source?

One of the things was an article in our local paper by Dr Kerryn Phelps who is some top Doc in some high position here in Oz. It wasn't so much that it was saying its bad just more that its not a solution etc etc

Ok then ignore it! I mean, obviously it works. In fact, during my seminar, the statistics my surgeon quoted showed Aussies to have even BETTER results that those we have here in the USA, and 3 years out losses are equal to, or better than, bypass patients. So ignore that negative mumbo jumbo. The band is just a tool and if you use it properly it will do wonders. If you don't use it, it won't. Just like a hammer...it just lies there unless you pick it up, grab a nail, and wham away! :tongue_smilie:

Welcome and good luck to you!

When I saw the nutritionist today, he said that if you don't use it correctly (like the tool that it is), it just becomes an expensive funnel. Funny way to put it but gives a great visual. We are making this change for our whole house. Its time for all of us to eat healthier. I just need a little more help.

Good luck!!!

Well, it's not incorrect to say that the band isn't a solution, in that it's not enough to get the band and then go merrily along your way. It's just one tool in what should be a comprehensive arsenal. It will help you make changes, but you have to be the one making the changes. It is not a quick fix, and it requires commitment and hard work.

Thanks for all the responses. I think it is going to be very helpful to have this "tool" for support. As I don't actually know anyone who has been banded i have no-one to talk to about my concerns. being able to talk to people who have already been through it is going to be very helpful.

Can anyone tell me where/how to add the weightloss ticker. I can manage to create one but don't know how to add it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
