Meet the Bunnies

Hi everyone!

My name is Christine and I'm 32 years old. I've been married for 14 years and have a daughter that will be 5 in May. I've been overweight since about 1996 (got married, fat and happy!) and have tried so many weight loss programs it's not even funny! I lost 50 lbs in 2003 before getting pregnant with my daughter but then gained it all back and then some from 2004 to now.

I found out in November that I have hypothyroidism and am fortunate that that's the ONLY health problem I have. My highest weight was at my Lapband orientation 11/25 and I was 297.5 UGH. I've been following the Kaiser 1200 calorie meal plan and have been exercising 5 days a week and am now 260.2. I've lost almost 40 pounds and my surgery is week from tomorrow--April 6th!!!

I'm so ready for this--not nervous, just excited and SO ready. I can't wait to get to know you all and share this journey with you.

Hello everyone. I dont know what took me so long to find this forum, but Im glad I did. I feel like Ive found my home in this great big world of LBT.

Anyway, Im Shadia Milan (Smilan), 33 years old. I will be 34 on April 22, so now I have two birthdays in April. I am married to a great guy who has been supportive since I first mentioned this surgery to him. Everyone in my family has been and my mil is actually looking into the surgery for herself.

Im hoping this weight loss will allow me to have a much more active lifestyle, and perhaps even a baby. That's something I havent been able to do. My doc thinks losing some weight may be a really helpful thing. I am also a fashion junkie, and cant really get a good fix in plus size clothing. I would be remiss if I didnt add that. Great to meet all of you bunnies.

Shout out to my band buddie - lingling!

Hi,

I am Vicky. I am 51 years old(married for 34 years with 3 sons) and when I broke the 300 mark a month ago I knew I was sinking and I need to do something else. I tried diets, exercise clubs, etc and nothing has worked. I have good health outside of those embarrassing problems of personal hygiene difficulties and being out of shape. I started wheezing after exercising two months ago and that woke me up.

My surgery is scheduled for April 14th and while I am scared....I can't wait to start.

I have to figure out how to get the tickers.

Thank you for being here.

YEEEEAAAAHAHHHHH!!! Not long now! Welcome everyone. Thanks for the shout out Smilan! Yay for the 2nd of April!!

Starting to get freaking excited about this!! Hoping it will quash the nerves of the surgery! My neighbour just said to me a good way to think about it is that I might be nervous but imagine if someone told me now that I couldn't have it, I'd be angry! - So i have to keep thinking of that!

Hi- my name is Karena. I have been married for almost 5 years. I have identical twin boys who are almost 2 years old. I have been thinking about lapband surgery since November 08. My goal is to lose 100 pounds which feels very overwhelming now that I have actually typed it out. I know that this is going to be a slow and steady process and am up for the challenge. I have lost large amounts of weight several times in my life so I know I can do it. I hope to be a good support system for many of you as I would like to lean on you as well.

Hi my name is Sandy, 43, married 23yrs, no kiddos. I worked for a job for 15 yrs sitting on my rear gaining weight. I changed careers, RN, now I'm up moving and slowly feeling like my knees are falling apart. One of the girls at church had LB and lost over 100lbs, she has been encourging my husband to have the LB done for a year and the more she talked, I thought "I'll do it". I'm 5ft @ 220lbs/bmi 44.5...so the joke is I'm my husbands "guinia pig" on losing weight with the LB. :smile2:

So maybe he will support me and see my changes and he will do the same.

good luck and my prayers are with all of you BUNNIES,

s

Hey Bunnies! I'm just north of Pittsburgh (but we've lived in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Philly too), Married 27 years on

April 23, 3 children DD-21 (graduating college May 3), DS-18 (Graduating HS June 5), DS-13. I'll be turning the big 5-0 on April 27, and my DH turns 50 April 28. I'm a stay at home mom now. Used to work in business improvement processes for a Fortune 500 (lots of travel, hard with kids). I have an Art Ed degree and taught for 8 years, so mention arts & crafts and I'm there!

I have 3 sisters and a brother, and I'm the skinny one. 2 have diabetes, 1 has had 2 strokes and my Dad has had several heart attacks. I can see the handwriting on the wall and I want to get healthy.

I was 5'9" and 130 pounds when I got married and I was teaching 8 aerobics classes a week at the time...LOL, if they could see me now. I gained weight with each kid and have done the major yo-yo for 20 years now each time gaining back more. I crossed the 200 mark about 5 years ago, lost it, then gained +...the usual. I'm not worried about losing a major hunk of the weight, just worried about gaining it back...again...sigh.

I write an almost daily blog here on LBT and it's been very cathartic for me, especially because I'm not telling anyone but DH. I'd encourage anyone to start one, even just to document your progress. Come visit me sometime there!

Hi, I am Dawn. I'm 37, and I live in Scotland. I'm married (12years) and have two kids (8, 5).

I thought about getting banded about a year and a half ago, but when I told my mum , dad and sister about it they were very hostile. I caved in, and listened to their opinions that it was too drastic and that I was silly to even think about it.

Since then, I tried seeing a psychiatric nurse for a year, tried another diet or two, and even enrolled on a course that aimed to teach you how to stop the need to overeat... I am about 15lbs heavier as a result.

I am now in the morbidly obese category, and feeling myself struggle with doing the day to day things more than ever before. My health is still reasonably good - no high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol, so I am lucky that way. Still, when I look into the future, I see myself getting bigger and bigger, and developing health problems along the way. I have some super obese aunts who can do very little for themselves, and plenty of heart attacks, strokes and arthritis in the family. I started looking at being banded again in February and now have a date fixed for 22nd April.

I am mega- busy at work at the moment, so I have had little time to really come to terms with how soon my surgery is. However, I am happy I'm doing the only thing left to me to fix myself now.

I haven't told my mum or sister, but my husband is fully supportive. He is excited at the thought of me getting my energy back, and being a bit more like I was when we met, before I started really gaining weight. I have tried to get the message through to him that I will still be 37 if I'm thinner, and won't be 22 again!!! I've told 3 really close friends. One of them can't quite believe I'm thinking of it, as she doesn't think of me as having a weight problem - just being a curvy girl. Although my weight is high, I don't really look quite as big as the scales say. Even the surgeon was surprised. I carry a lot on my legs, right down to my feet, and it's pretty evenly spread elsewhere. But I feel REALLY HEAVY, and the weight IS there, and I am carrying it around everywhere I go!

I want to have the energy to run around with the boys, go for big walks, bike-rides, maybe even RUN!!!

I am scared a bit about the surgery, but not too much. I'm scared I will have something go wrong with the band later. I am scared that I might fail to quit overeating chocolate and therefore fail to loose weight. I am scared about telling my family. I still haven't decided when to tell them. I'm scared how I'm going to disguise what I'm (not) eating in the month after surgery. I'm scared that my secret will get out in the small community i live in, and how I might be judged. I'm scared that I will miss eating special dinners. I'm scared about choking and being sick when I'm eating.

Sorry - this is turning into quite a story!! So, enough about me! I'm glad to have found this forum, and to get to know all of you other Bunnies!

Hello,

I'm J I'm 25 and have a 10 month old daughter, I've been married for 8 yrs in June. When I started dating my DH I was between 135 and 140 the day we got married I was 199 and gaining ever since. In 2002 I diagnosised w/ PCOS and even though I weighed 274 was told just to diet and exercise. I have gone up and down the same 40 lbs. In 2007 I got pregnant through IUI w/ my daughter I was 305 the day I found out I was pregnant and 301 the day she was born 2 wks after her birth I was 277 so I lost about 30 lbs thinking that this was it I was going to keep it off I find myself at 313. Seeing how my weight was going to negativly impact her life is what made me realize I need help. I can't ride rollercoasters or kiddie rides w/ her among other things. I worry about chairs holding my weight and dread one w/ arms. It was time. So the begin of March end of Feb. I started the steps was approved the middle of March Surgery on the 17th of April and I am ready.

Hi everyone. My name is Jean, I am 54 yrs old and I live in Texas. I will be married in August 35 years and have two daughters 31 and 26 and two of the cutest grandsons, 3 1/2 and the other will be 2 next month.

I started thinking about LB last August but my husband's insurance did not cover it. I decided to take the health insurance with the company I work for after I checked out the two and chose Empire BCBS so attended a seminar in January and will be banded on 4/17. Yippeee! I am 5'1' and have been fighting the weight battle for 25 years after being treated for Graves disease. I have high BP, sleep apnea, and everything else related to being overweight. I have to break the curse of the women in my family and live out of my 60s.

I am so excited and am doing the preop diet now. If you think I talk alot now you should be around me if I have a cup of regular coffee. smile.gif A total hyper bunny.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
