Well, this is my BEFORE picture. Well it has been five days sine the banding. Most all of the soreness is gone. NO, I do not like the IDS New whey Protein drinks. Thank goodness I am on the creamy Protein drinks!!! Can't wait until Wednesday when I get my staples out, and I will treat myself to Taco Bell and have some pintos 'n cheese.

YUM-O

Side Note: My wife (thin2bme - March 2008 Bandsters) had her surgery exactly 1 year ago and has lost 107 lbs. At least I/We have a great support group in one another.

I was banded on St. Patty's day too! Can I ask how your weight loss is coming? It's been 2 weeks now and I've only lost 9 pounds since the actual day of the surgery, is that normal?

The first thing you have to realize is that during the first MONTH, you are in the healing phase. The primary focus should be on eating right, getting your Water in, and staying as active as you can. The weight loss during this time is only secondary, and will certainly happen in due time. Don't rush thngs...sip sip sip, and chew chew chew. As for me, I have practiced what I preach, and have lost 30 lbs to date since about 2 weeks before surgery. My clothes are starting to become too big, and I am off almost all of my Diabetes and BP medications. I know that this sounds repetitive, but if you follow the simple "rules", you will do very well in your weight loss adventure. My wife has lost over 107 lbs in just over a year, so I know the system works. I hope that this has answered your questions, and if you need anything else just let me know. Have a great day.

I was banded on the 17th also. There are a lot more of us that were banded on the 17th that I've met in other threads.

Awesome medical results for a 30 lb. weight loss, Tad!:smile2: It's wonderful that you also have a support system in your wife, who has gone through this before you!

Hi, Anii! As I said in the other thread, we're still doing great with our 9 lb. weight loss!

Anil- I am only down 6 lbs, was more like 9 but since I am eating more real foods now I am up a few. I feel great so things must be going good.

Try not to compare your weight loss to others, if you have alot more to loose than you loose alot quicker, if you dont have that much than you loose slower.

Moondust- I went in for my 3rd fill on Friday and I was at 5cc's with no restriction. I told my doctor how frustrated I was that I was basically just holding my own for the last few months, up a few pounds, down a few pounds and he deceided to put 2 cc's in my band which put me at 7 cc's. I went to the grocery store accross the street and was trying to drink Water as I shopped and the water kept coming back up. After I left the store I went right back to his office and he took 1 cc out so now I am at 6 cc's and I have good restriction. I went camping this weekend and it was not very fun because I was swollen from the fill and the pbing of water but I managed to keep a slim fast down and some pudding. Now I feel really good. I have good restriction and I can eat very little amounts. Finally I am where I should be!!!

Hi, all :rolleyes2:!

Just checking in on the March 17th 2009 bandsters. How are you all doing?

I've had slow, slow, slow progress. Since I can't really get my heart rate up by excercising, it's a problem. I was eating what I was told but it shut down my metabolism since I was not able to do weight bareing exercise along with it. It's been depressing, to say the least. I'm on the right track now though.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
