5 days to go - but the excitement is affecting my sleep.

About the CPAP (I call it the CRAP mask) -

I had the 2 sleep studies and was urged to get the contraption.

Apparently my surgeon refuses to allow surgery unless you bring the CRAP paraphernalia (if you've been prescribed of course)

Can't blame him - liability and all that.

But when I got the thing I found out that my setting is for the lowest - 4 cm - which is barely felt.

It's still sitting high on my closet shelf - unopened.

I guess I'll have to use it at least once before surgery day and see how the thing works.

Jeesh! - I really hate that thing.

I plan to shove it off my face so I can sleep better.

I hope the nurses don't wake me up to put the thing back on so I can "sleep better."

Seems pointless to me.

Good morning all!! As you can tell by the time I'm posting this I took my meds too early and now I can't sleep! So I thought this would be a good time to play catch up! I came thru surgery just fine, but I didn't wake up from recovery till 6:00 p.m. so my husband didn't feel good about me coming home right after so I stayed all night. Just so I could be poked, stuck and honestly woken up to find out if I was in any pain!! Now who would want to go home and miss all that? I'm just glad one of us got a good nights sleep!! But anyway, I'm home now and so far no problems with being sick or pressure in my chest. I've been walking all I can in the house and I think that is helping alot! I did find out one thing, I won't be getting my first fill until 6 wks. The Dr. said that will give me enough time for the swelling to go down on my stomach and that does make sense but I haven't heard anyone else say anything about it. So I don't know if this is normal or not. Anyone else been told that? Oh Yea Thanks B_G, for the shout out B.B. card! It was really cute and thank you for all you do for the rest of us!! It is so thoughtful of you to do everything you do!!

36_1_75.gif Well I'm going back to bed, I'll talk to you guys later! Thanks for all your prayers!! It really does help to know that your being thought of!!

sig.jsp?pc=ZSzeb114&pp=ZUxdm553YYUS

My doc also waits to fill after several weeks, also because of the swelling factor and just to be certain all is healed before a fill.

It took some time to get comfortable with the CPAP, but now that I'm used to it I can't sleep without it! Although I certainly hope to be rid of it after the weight loss! Good luck! You might want to communicate with the surgical staff if you don't have all the peices of your CPAP. You may need to stop by a medical supply store to get all the parts.

Pulled mine out from under the night stand lastnight to find that the mask is missing I did finally get a Dr. to do a script I just hope my new insurance will pay for it. I thought about showing up giving what I had and acting suprised :glare: when they found no mask but was afrade they'd check b4 surgery and cancel me. Now I gotta go pickup the new mask at a different place than I got the machine before Friday I may take tomorrow off......

Doodlebug, thanks for the update on how you are doing. I am happy to hear you made it through fine and sound good. I think my doc waits 6 weeks before the first fill too. I am hoping there is not a lot of hunger between the surgery and those 6 weeks.

Shakia, glad to hear you're doing good. I love this group too and don't know what I would do without all you guys!

Elayne, you made me laugh so hard to hear about the CRAP machine! lol and then to read JayTee's post about acting surprised at the missing pieces! lol thanks for the laugh, I really needed it. :glare:

More than likely not. The surgery lasts 3 hr, my preinstructions says that a catheter will be inserted during surgery to empty the bladder. Sa n panties til after you wake up from surgery. Mimi teapot

Mimi! Why so long? are you having other operations done too?

I plan to shove it off my face so I can sleep better.

You guys with Sleep Apnoea shouldn't take it so lightly! I work for a life insurance company, and sleep apnoea without a CPAP is DECLINE! (yes your chance of death without the mask is too high to quantify!)

The reason it causes death is that it alters the chemicals in your blood provided to you by oxygen and therefore increases the risk of normal heart attack see here: http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/sleep-apnea/news/20050323/sleep-apnea-makes-wee-hours-sudden-death-time

But also when the oxygen levels get so low (less than 80%) the right ventricle in the heart cannot pump in normal rhythm and goes into Ventricular Tachycardia with no warning and you are just dead.

Annoying but lifesaving!

Well I came home today. The drugs have basically kicked my butt and the thought of food repluses me. I'm sore, but not too much gas pain. I have tried to get up and get walking. I hope this nausea feeling goes away soon. It's pretty nasty!

I have a couple of friends that use the CPAP, and they won't go anywhere without it. They both told me that they didn't realize how disrupted their sleep was before, until they started using it. Now, they get great sleep and feel well-rested in the morning. Never know, you might love it!

Oh Hopeful - yuck - I too went through that and was so lightheaded - take some liquid gravol - it works quick and is very effective. I only had to take it once and it was great! Good luck

Hi everyone

So here I am 1 week banded and I am as happy as a clam. I went from 'what the hell did I do, get this thing out of me, I can't stand the pain" to....... no pain, feel great, feeling thinner, not at all hungry, no desire to eat, little tiny slits of scars (I'm not really one to care about scars mind you), no gas pain, no pain at all, sleeping on my stomach. I cannot believe how good I feel now when I felt so bad this time last week and it lastest a few days and it was really nasty. Hang in there everyone, it goes by quickly and is well worth it. I told a few folks at work I was going off for surgery but not what kind of surgery. In the past year I have had a hysterectomy and a partial mastectomy (turned out to be non-cancer thank god) so they were all wondering and being 'silent' isn't really my nature. So I decided that they all thought I was having a boob job and thought I'd wear a pair of oranges in my bra my first day back and see what their reaction was - what do you think? :tt2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
