Hello everyone. I am a 31 year old mother/wife. I have two beautiful children and a wonderful husband whom I would like to stay around with for a long time. For that reason alone, I have decided to look into getting the lap-band. I have already been to one seminar and have been told that the process is not an easy one nor is it a short one. I plan to be patient but can't help but feel anxious about the surgery. I am waithing on the doctors to call me with an initial clinic visit to get the ball rolling. Any advice out there???

Just hang in there! I was self-pay so I was able to get everything done in about two weeks. If your insurance is paying, it will take longer. I just got my band Friday, March 13th, and so far everything is going well. I'm down about 7 lbs already. It is a little tough but not real bad. I just hope that it stays that way! Let us know when you get your surgery and how your progressing. Good Luck!

How long it takes depends on how many hoops your insurance company makes you jump through. It only took 3 weeks from my first phone call to the surgeon's office until my surgery. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
