I've been loving these salads!!!

Recommended Posts

~Spring Mix salad (lettuce)

~1/4 cup shredded cheddar/jack cheese

~few tbs salsa

~2 tbs low fat sour cream

~few tbs fat free italian dressing (I don't use much because of salsa already gives moisture)

~Marinated chicken breast (use whatever you like. I like light ceasar dressing, or just oil w/ some spice).

That's it! Enjoy!!!

Sometimes I just use turket breast if that's all i have on hand. This salad really stays w/ me for hours! It's about 550 cals or so I think.

When di dyou all re-introduce salads to your diet? This past weekend I was CRAVING a salad- being only 1 month out I didnt for fear something bad would happen-

I have not been given the green light to go to "normal" foods yet...

7 weeks out. If you can tolerate them sooner, go for it! But most people can tolerate them at 2-3 months.

Try salad greens, feta, blue cheese, or gorgonzola, a sprinkle of dried cranberries, walnuts or almond slivers, balsamic dressing. Yummy!

...and chicken breast

I'm doing low carb right now and this has been my favorite salad: spinach, baby lettuce, shreaded mazzarella, balsamic vinnegarette, and I usually add either cooked shrimp or light tuna to it. It's the best salad I've ever had! Plus it's only about 7 grams of carbs.

I was given the green light for salads at three weeks. one of my fave salads is realllly simple. green leafe lettuce, a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese, fresh toasted almonds, and a squeeze of lemon juice.

*and the toasted almonds are really easy to make-get some sliced almonds, spread them on a cookie sheet, and pop them in the oven for 5-10 mins at 390. pull them out when slightly browned. i love to toss them in Soups too. and if you want extra flavor, sprinkle them with your favorite seasoning before you put them in the ove. yummmmm.

Excellent job! Wow 112 lbs. Amazing. I cant wait.

I am at 1 1/2 months banded. Can you share some of your food choices to have such a great loss?

Taco salad would be my fav. No chips just salsa cheese and sour cream. Ground hamburger meat seasoned. No Beans.

Yea, i do eat taco stuff a lot, the family likes that too. If I am wanting that crunch, I eat the multigrain chips( a few) it's better for the rest of the fam too. I buy the low carb tortilla wraps from Walmart and make me a wrap-which w/ cold cuts. Or I just eat the cold cuts rolled up w/ cheese dipped in mayo. Or I eat cottage cheese w/ a sprinkle of shredded cheese on top. I make chicken or tuna salad a lot. Boiled eggs. Wendys chili is a good choice if your out or the chicken nuggs. I eat a lot of cheeses. Omelets.. Protien shakes nearly every morning. I always use the Calorie Countdown locarb milk for me, also the chocolate milk flavor as a treat too. Hope all these ideas help you some!!

I love salads! It's nice to know I'll be able to eat this after. How about fish? I know a gal that swears by her fish in her diet. Any good recipes?

Hello everybody! I'm a new "bandster" 6 wks post op and trying this site out for the first time. I enjoy reading all of your helpful information, suggestions and warnings.

I have always LOVED salads and have been craving them a lot lately. How long before I will be able to add a good tossed salad to my diet? Also, will I ever be able to eat spicy foods again? Boneless Buffalo chicken was my favorite salad topper.

This sounds yummy but it doesn't sound like a salad to me! Salads are supposed to be full of vegies - the only vegie in this salad is lettuce which has very little nutrition. Other than that it is full of high fat sauces etc (even the lower fat ones are still fairly high in fat).

To me a salad should have some kind of leaf, cucumber, Tomato, grated carrot, capsicum, onion, raw mushrooms etc. Then add some form of Protein and a tiny bit of dressing if necessary.

This would be far lower in calories, far higher in Vitamins and minerals, would probably fill you up better and would also help keep you regular. Something which high protein/fat - low carb diets struggle to do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
