Hi, I haven't been banded yet but have just heard you can't take advil once you have the band. Does anyone know why? I take advil for very bad menstrual cramps and it is the only thing that helps me. Tylenol doesn't touch it and I don't wanna resort to narcotics for them. I can't imagine having to suffer through cramps because they are so bad for me. The thought of that makes me think i shouldn't get the band. And i really want the band.

Thanks

Ibuprofen and aspirin can cause ulsers in the pouch, thats why they ask u not to take them. Try before u have ur band, Tylenol Extra Strength liquid, its awesome. I used it instead of the pain meds the dr prescribed for after surgery. Good luck!

Ask your surgeon how he/she feels about Advil. Some say avoid it, but mine said Advil/ibuprofen is FINE. It is best to follow what YOUR surgeon recommends.:lunch:

As mentioned previously, risk of ulcers and stomach bleeding are an issue. It is very hard on the stomach when taken regularly, but is especially bad for bandsters since it can sit for too long in the pouch.

Mine allows it in liquid form on a very limited basis, no more than a couple of doses a month at most. When I do take it, I am required to take it on an empty stomach well after my last meal (so that the pouch is empty). I then need to follow it with a full cup of liquid to flush it through quickly. I usually use milk.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
