I have not been scheduled for my surgery yet but I have had surgeries before where I have been put under but have never had a breathing tube, that I know of. Is this done with all lap band surgeries and do you feel it? Do they put it in after you are already out. This scares me a lot because I have a huge issue with my throat and choking and just want to make sure you don't actually feel it being put in. I have watched on tv when they do surgeries and see it being pulled out as they bring people too and they kinda gag. I am going for my first group meeting tomorrow and will be asking this, but I am freaking out about it. I am just a weirdo! I love this forum though, it's been really great getting information. I am very nervous about the whole thing.

What AngelWhisper said. Yes, you'll get a breathing tube with the lapband. You'll get a sedative that will make you very drowsy before they place the tube, so no, you shouldn't remember it going in. Generally, they remove the tube while you are still groggy from the anesthesia, so most people don't remember it coming out, either.

You will NEED it...it will keep you alive, and you may not ever know it was there (like your other surgeries). They knock you out, and they remove it before you come to fully, so you don't ever know or feel panicked etc. I get claustrophobic but the tube was a big non-event. In fact my second surgery I didn't even have a sore throat from it (sometimes you do, sometimes you don't,. but again it's minor). Hang in there!

I have had several surgeries in my life and don't remember having the tube placed or removed. Also, I have never had a sore throat. No worries!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
