Charlie524 0 Posted March 17, 2009 I have not been scheduled for my surgery yet but I have had surgeries before where I have been put under but have never had a breathing tube, that I know of. Is this done with all lap band surgeries and do you feel it? Do they put it in after you are already out. This scares me a lot because I have a huge issue with my throat and choking and just want to make sure you don't actually feel it being put in. I have watched on tv when they do surgeries and see it being pulled out as they bring people too and they kinda gag. I am going for my first group meeting tomorrow and will be asking this, but I am freaking out about it. I am just a weirdo! I love this forum though, it's been really great getting information. I am very nervous about the whole thing.
AngelWhisper 0 Posted March 17, 2009 If you had general anesthesia before you definitely had a breathing tube. You don't feel it or remember any of it. Don't worry!
plain 12 Posted March 17, 2009 What AngelWhisper said. Yes, you'll get a breathing tube with the lapband. You'll get a sedative that will make you very drowsy before they place the tube, so no, you shouldn't remember it going in. Generally, they remove the tube while you are still groggy from the anesthesia, so most people don't remember it coming out, either.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted March 17, 2009 You will NEED it...it will keep you alive, and you may not ever know it was there (like your other surgeries). They knock you out, and they remove it before you come to fully, so you don't ever know or feel panicked etc. I get claustrophobic but the tube was a big non-event. In fact my second surgery I didn't even have a sore throat from it (sometimes you do, sometimes you don't,. but again it's minor). Hang in there!
AngieAngel 0 Posted March 17, 2009 I have had several surgeries in my life and don't remember having the tube placed or removed. Also, I have never had a sore throat. No worries!
Marmite_crumpet 0 Posted March 17, 2009 You definitely had one during your previous surgeries. And, as you have experienced those times, you won't know anything about it.
