Protein shakes - GAG, YUCK, PUKE, EEEEKKKK

Recommended Posts

I went on Bariatriceating.com and ordered their Protein sample pack. They give you a ton of samples to try so you don't spend money on what you don't like. Just wanted to let you all know in case it was helpful

I got lucky and my nutritionist recommended the Jay Robb Protein Powder. It is AWESOME! A little pricey but so worth it IMHO. It kind of froths up and tastes like a milkshake without the ice cream.

If I am making a powdered Protein shake, I *have* to add a shot of sugar free Toriani Syrup to it otherwise I will also gag.

I like sugarfree almond the best, it goes with both chocolate and vanilla.< /p>

Yummy sugar free syrup

I'm currently into Healthwise shakes where you add Water to the bottle and shake. 70 cals, 15 grams Protein, 1 carb. Fruity flavors. Yummy and they really kill my appetite.

Ewwww, Muscle Milk tasted like strained sweat socks and bile to me. I get shivers just thinking about it.

I really think the Protein manufacturers should sell single-serving powder samples so you can road test these things before investing in the big canister... but then again, maybe that's how they make their money. ha ha ha

You crack me up, Rachel! :crying: I just tried my first Muscle Milk today, and although it didn't taste like sweat socks and bile to me, I did get an immediate stomachache and headache. Don't want to try that one again.

unjury sells single-serving powder samples on their website for $1.75 each. I just bought vanilla, chocolate, unflavored, and chicken Soup. I've only tried vanilla, and it was okay. I've heard the chocolate is very good. My dietitian highly recommended that brand, so I figured I'd test them out. She said stay far, far away from the strawberry, though. Oh, and I got the order in the mail the very next day! (Found out they are in Virginia.)

Oh, that was my experience with Designer Whey's strawberry too. It has a very odd, strong strawberry taste, but not a sweet strawberry taste... I still use it though with a banana and a spoon or two of strawberry Quick.

The ONLY one I can drink is Premier Protein which I have only seen and bought at costco. It is 30g of Protein. I buy the chocolate flavor and was worried I wouldn't like it when I first bought it since I had spent $24 on case of 18 individual containers. It is also sold in vanilla, but I've never tried that. I usually add about an ounce of ordinary milk to the glass as well which brings it up to a 12 ounce serving. It is not sugar free, but only has 1 gram of sugar. Is also labeled Low Fat. I can't even stand the SMELL of any of the others I've tried....

You've gotten a lot of suggestions but I wanted to throw another one out there. I bought this powder whey Protein mix at Walmart, Body Fortress Whey Protein it comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and Cookies and cream. I LOVE the strawberry one, I mix it with half a banana, skim milk and ice - tastes like strawberry ice cream and no protein taste. The best part is its only like $13 for a 2lb container. 26 grams of protein and only 100 calories for the powder.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
