Why have you only lost 10lbs in 8 month, are you not able to eat as much as before the surgery, and if you eat less there must be a weight loss of more then 10lbs in 8 months. have you not had fills. I ask these questions because I have not been banded as of yet but I do have a date for surgery on 11/18. stories let yours make me wish I had chosen a different surgery.

I do hope that things will get better for you and you begin to lose.:think

Hi Janet,

Nice to meet you! I'm sure you're having a very frustrating time of it. Can you give us more information?

Have you been back to see Dr. Sanchez or anyone else to talk about why you're not losing weight? Please tell us if you've had any fills, and how they effected you or not. There are a million questions and variables and I'm sure if we put our heads together we can come up with some answers for you.

Thanks for coming here to share your experience. We'd love to hear more!

Janet,

It would seem like:

a) you have no restriction and may be long overdue for an adjustment; or,

 you are overrestricted and are eating all soft foods to compensate for a band that is too tight; or,

c) you are "eating around the band" living on high calorie liquids or foods that melt before they get to the band.

Give us a little more information and perhaps we can help. Have you had any adjustments? What do you eat? Are you only ten pounds down, or have you lost thirty and regained twenty?

Ashanti,

There is NO surgery which can guarantee you that three years post-op you will weigh one ounce less than you do right now. These surgeries are tools and if used correctly, they mostly work. But, we have to pick the right tool and use it wisely.

The first band patient I ever met lost only ten pounds her first year post-op. Why? She lived off of Soups and chilis. She changed to solid foods and lost about sixty pounds the next year.

Good luck!

Sue

Hi Sue,

I understand that these surgeries are tools and must be use correctly, What I don't understand is how can you only be 10 lbs lighter after 8 months if you are using your band as a tool with better eating habits. also I am new to all of this and full of questions. also I have friends that all had lap RNY surgeries and lost the weight very fast and I quess you can say after making my choice to get the band and knowing that the weight lost is slower thats I envey the quickness of there weight loss and thats why I was having second throughs about the band. But I do thank that I have made the right choice or shall I say a healthier choice, all the cutting and relocating that the other surgeries required was not for me. I do thank you for responding to my question I love this forum and think that it will come in very handy after I am banded.

Let me add a little more info for you guys. I've had 2 fills since being banded. I now have 4 cc's in an 11 cc band. My first fill, I drove 6 hours both ways to just get 2cc's. My second fill, I flew to Dallas and got 2 more. The dr. there told me I had the start of a hernia at the bottom of my esophogus. He said it was from overeating and "packing my pouch" with food. My last fill was in July. I've spoken with Dr. Sanchez's people and they said to come down there and he could check it all out. Well, I'm saving money for the plane ticket and I plan on going next month.

I really don't eat a lot of sweet stuff. I'm a more "meat and potatoe" kind of person. And I know I overeat but there's no restriction telling me not to. If I was good a dieting then I wouldn't of spent over $10,000 on the band.

Thanks for everyone's replys.

Janet

Hi Bagger,

So the problems is mostly that you are over eating and not eating the right kinds of food so that you might be able to shed more weight then you have. didn't your Dr. give you some kind of guideline on what you could and could not eat in order to lose weight.

My fears are that once I am banded that I to might have the same problems of not losing weight because I am not eating correctly, or because I feel that I can still eat the same amount of food that I did before. I also feel that I will eat the first thing thats in front of me because it convenent instead of making sure its the right type of food. But I must say that I have learned a little something here Good Luck on your trip back to see your Dr. I hope things soon work out for you.

Hi Janet,

That's got to be so hard going through all of this and only losing 10 pounds.

I also suggest you talk to your doctor. That just seems really strange.

Good luck to you, and keep us informed how everything is going.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
