Calling All Self Pay People Who Had Surgery In Mexico

Recommended Posts

Thanks to all of you who said Dr Aceves does older folks. Maybe I reversed the #'s in my mind! After my next dr's visit I will make some calls around to see if anyone locally would do fills. I know there are 2 fill centers in northern NC and a Dr in Frederick Md I could go to. However, all those options are between 4 1/2 and 5 hrs each way from my home. Thanks everyone, you are all so encouraging.

I am scheduled with Dr. Zapata (Ready4Achange.com) on the 18th of August.

I did a lot of research and feel confident I will have no problems. I am going to have fills done at 'Fill Center USA' here in Austin.

Your inability to exercise may be what is slowing you down but at least you are losing. If you continue at your current rate, you will be down around 50 lbs in a year. That is fantastic. i would just hang in there and take delight in the fact that you are losing, not gaining.

You may find that as you continue to lose weight, you may, indeed, be able to begin exercising. Exercise will speed your weight loss.

Given your situation, it sounds like patience will be your best friend. In two years at your current rate of weight loss, you could be down 100 lbs. I think that prospect is worth the effort within your current limitations (which I think will improve over time).

Thank you so much Canary 1,

You have been a breathe of fresh air. My self esteem is poor, so you have really inspired me. I really needed some positive input.

Thanks again, and also for taking your time to help someone else in need!!!! BRAVO:thumbup::ohmy::thumbup::):)

Livinwithfaith/KY do you have access to a pool? I also have fibromyalgia and exercising is therefore a big problem. I have been doing Water aerobics in our community pool this summer and find that helps. The water does need to be fairly warm so you don't cease up after a few mins though.Good luck keepin on keepin on.

I was banded in Tijuana and I'm going back for my first fill 8-22, but I might use one of the fill centers in the States after that. Don't know yet. I live about 7 1/2 hours from Tijuana driving and 1 1/2 hours flying. I think we just have to plan the time and expense into the process. I think of how much money I'm saving on food right now, so I think it might work out to be the same. I have been quite happy about my treatment in Mexico and I'm hoping the fill experience will be similar. I also work out in a pool (it's too hot to walk here right now). I love the pool.

I am too far away to consider going back to Mexico for fills or even a post surgical check up.. I live in SW VA and am 5 hrs from any major airport. My complication thoughts, in truth, were ones years down the road, not soon after surgery. Seems as if when there is a rare complication I always seem to get it. I also have a lot of autoimmune issues so I am a little leery. I read, I think on his site that Dr Aceves only does people 56 or younger. Anyone know about that and if it is so?

did you ever find anyone to do fills in VA? I'm in the Shenandoah Valley and need to find someone closer than my current Dr. 2 1/2 hrs away.

Hello!

I had my surgery done by Dr. Kuri in Tijuana, Mexico on July 3rd. I was nervous as heck about going to another country to get it done, but I LOVED him and his staff..

Firstly they will set you up with a facilitator who is available day or night to help you and answer questions..And once you have the surgery, the patient facilitator stays in contact with you!! Mine is great.

They also have a network of doctor in each state that can do the fills and follow up for you. Thankfully, I have found one close by. They also have an online forum similar to this one to support you. Every summer they also have what's called a "Bandster Bash", which is an event where all the patients get together and have a big party. I wish I was going this year..Oh well :)

Just do lots of research before you make your decision!

Anyway, I wish you luck. If you would like to know more info. feel free to respond.

Cindy

Smile4532 No I never found a Dr in SWVA. The closest ones I found were in Frederick MD or down in NC. This played a big part in my not having surgery. Between the travel for follow up and the costs I decided it wasn't a good solution for me. I am seriously now considering plication as a better tool for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
