Pain while doing Ab work

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? When I'm doing ab exercises (especially torso twists) I get a really sharp pain on my left upper stomach area. It tends to vary in intensity, but it happens every time I'm doing ab work. It sort of feels like something is being pinched inside, but that may just be my imagination.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I have never experienced this. 9 months out I think you shouldn't still be experiencing discomfort with or without movement...I would definitely mention this to my doctor.

i get it to...however mine feels like something is hitting my ribs...like it goes bump bump bump and then it's sore...my doctor says it's impossible that it would be my band and it's probably a muscle....?????? it doesn't always happen but when it does, it really starts to worry me

I also get it , it doesn't have to be exercise, even when I turn to reach for something behind me. the band is actually stiched to the stomach and I definitely feel something pull.

I get it too. The doctor said it could be the tubing to the port pushing on the muscle.. He said it is definitely not the band, He said you feel the band"problems" by your chest bone or in your back. As long as it is just a "feeling" of minor discomfort he said not to worry.

yup, i definitely ache after a lot of ab work. recently it's been so bad that i sometimes can't even sleep on that side. i talked to my trainer and to my surgeon about it. doc says it could be that the work i've done is pulling on a stitch or somesuch. also, as i've lost weight and can definitely feel the "lump" where my port is and where the scar tissue has formed around it. argh.

i've been toying around with the idea of a Tummy Tuck and i guess i can resolve the issue then my retrofitting a lower profile port.

as for ab work, i keep doing it. tho i do limit really strenuous sessions to 2x a week.

Thanks guys, like so much after the surgery, I just want to know that it's normal! It's not like massively painful, just sort of pinches when I twist to that side, or when I really crunch up. One of those things that until you hear others have the same thing going on, just makes you a little uneasy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
