Many surgeons have brochures in their offices for self-payers. I think I've heard of a place called "care credit". Hopefully that will give you a starting place, and maybe self-payers can give you some tips. Good luck!

I went to my bank. My car is paid off and the bluebook value was great enough to cover the amount I needed for surgery in Mexico. I borrowed $7300 and will pay $178 for the next 48 months. My mom offered to co-sign for a signature loan if I needed.

Good luck, try your bank and then check into medical financing. You can find several on line and through your doctor.

Get your credit files and scores and correct any errors. This will raise your fico score.

Go first to your current creditors...as in see about credit line increases.

Next, try your credit union or bank. Alot of times if they see your paycheck directly deposited they KNOW you'll repay the loan.

But if they decline you, there are always subprimes and care credit has been used by many. The interest rate is higher than what you could get at a credit union, but whatever-

get it paid off as quick as possible. Not only are you paying 10k, but at 7% interest.....you can see the compounding. Your sugery is gonna end up costing you 20k.

Do you mind sharing your experience with Care Credit? I am approved through them but still reluctant due to the unknown on many levels!

I actually used to work for CareCredit when it was still a private company. They were then bought out by GE credit, I think? Not that it helps with your question any but they've been around for a long time.

Hi

My husband and I are both self pay. Ouch! My husband wanted to buy me a car and I said I would rather have a lapband. I am soooooooooo..... glad I did this. We will claim it on our income tax this year and get part of it back. Are you in Canada or US?

We financed ours through Credit Medical but we live in Canada.

Hi All,

Well I applied for Capital One credit and was denied. I have a good beacon score, in the mid- 700's, but my debt to equity is high because I have two mortgages that I am paying although I have a tenant in one. The disadvantage is that when they pull an inquiry on your credit, it doesn't offer you the chance to explain the circumstances. It still generates a small income but because of the current economy, large loans regardless of the type are still a huge risk.

The irony is that I was easily able to schedule my psych and consult but this is the largest road block.

My doctor does not accept care credit b/c of their fees. I am so discouraged. Everything just kinda fell in line until the financing. I'm a single woman that makes a comfortable salary and have no late pays on any of my credit history. I don't want to ask anyone to co-sign b/c I have never had to do that before and no one in my family thinks that I should even have the procedure.

I welcome any suggestions on some creative ways to come up with financing.

Thanks.
