I figured I should introduce myself as I've been lurking around here for hours!

After wishing for something to work for my whole life, I'm excited to finally be on the short list for my lap band. I was approved in Jan and have a date for surgery of April 27th.

Here's my life story in abridged: Chubby kid, skinny teenager, baby #1 gained 50lbs, diagnosed with PCOS, second baby 14 yrs later, gained 50lbs (then went on to gain 25 more pounds in my first year post partum and while nursing - what is that all about?). Tried everything...been there done that.

My mom had gastric bypass about 2 yrs ago and has lost almost 100lbs and is off all of her diabetes and hypertension meds. Ok...my turn. I can't wait!

Well, this is all very new to me, so I hope I am doing this right. I have been sitting and reading for the last 3 hours.

I have been overweight my entire life. I was/am always bigger than my friends. I could never share any clothes, which was very depressing. I am so ready for a thinner and healthier me. I went to my first support group on February 23rd and my initial doctors appt was on March 4th. I also did the nutrition class and pysch appt on same day. Because I am a self pay I was able to schedule my surgery right away. I will be banded on March 24th. I very excited and getting nervous at the same time. I am very relieved that I have actually read that some people haven't had any problems. I am planning on going back to work on March 30th. Praying that all goes well. My surgeon is Dr. Hougen in Victoria, Texas. I will say I am a little nervous that I did not get the surgeon that I requested but they claim this guy knows what he is doing. Scarey!!! I suppose that is my story in a nutshell. Oh, I do go to the doctor on Friday, 20th for pre-op. I guess they will tell me if I need to go on liquid diet prior to surgery. I can't figure out how to add the ticker.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
