Upper abdomen pain

Recommended Posts

This is the day after my 2nd fill. Until now, I haven't felt much restriction.

Now when I eat or drink, even just a small amount, I feel discomfort just under my breast area. If I bend over, like on all 4's, the pain disappears. When I straighten up, it feels OK for about 3 minutes then the pain slowly comes back.

The best description of the feeling is tightness.

Is this what restriction feels like? Fullness? Too tight?

Yes, it can be like that. Eat very small bites and very Sloooow. I am glad its uncomfortable because it has changed me mentaly I am now so turned off by food and now don't think much about eating.

See, I couldn't handle being that restricted. Mine doesn't feel like that, but it sounds like you are just a little tighter than mine. Many people like to be that tight. If you can eat and it doesn't bother you, then leave it. If it stops you from eating the foods you are supposed to eat, then go get a little taken out.

I wouldn't leave the dr's office with my first fill until Water went down easily. They put 2ccs in me and Water was slow, so they took 1cc out. I am 8 months post op and still only have 2ccs.

There can be some swelling after a fill so that could explain it. If you can't swallow your own spit you might be too tight. You might try liquids today and if you can't take them then you probably need an unfill. You should be able to at least drink something. If you can drink liquids then try mushies...maybe some oatmeal...you basically want to keep advancing as you feel comfortable. If after a few days you can't get beyond mushies then you might be too tight. Don't forget that talking to your doctor about this is always a good idea. Good luck.

Thanks for all your input.

Day 3, I woke feeling fine, drank some liquids and felt I should take it slow. I ate a small piece of chicken meat and felt "full". 3 hours later, I feel the same, like I don't need food.

I'm not hungry.

This will take some getting used to, but basically I like the cues.

I'm happy to have finally arrived to restiction!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
