Looking for my band twin - 3.25.09

Recommended Posts

I think I'm eating too much too, but it is a far cry from what I used to eat.

I'm eating small portions, I think and good food for me. Lots of Protein. My doc isn't as strict on how long you stay on different stages.

I don't feel any restriction. They told me not to weight but it's so hard.

I started out at 1 1/2 wks out losing about 8-9 lbs., but now 2 weeks out I have only lost 6 lbs - I dunno I'm frustrated.

My port site has a 3 1/2" incision and my port is just barely under skin, like a knot there all the time. My pants bind it and it hurts. Don't know what to do about that. I kindof wish I had done the gastric, kindof impossible not to lose the weight.

So confused. I feel like I don't even have a band and I'm doing everything right - at least I think I am.

I'm only eating between 600 - 800 per day, low carbs and fat.

NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto on the feeling like you don't even have a band....I ate crawfish like a crazy person and can eat anything I want right now....And yes w/ the gastric you would have lost weight, but if you were like me you didn't want to risk dying to do it...I really hope we start w/some help foem our tool SOON.....Keep up the battle its worth winning.....:)

I went in for my 1 month check-up 6 weeks after my surgery. I feel like I have had nothing done. The only difference to my eating habits are self-imposed. I am very frustrated - everything I see on-line (American) says to eat a high Protein, low carb diet and to eat 5 small meals a day. The Italian doctor was upset I had only lost 10 lbs and put me on "his" diet (Italian) which is extremely hard to follow and includes Pasta, bread, etc... it's all in grams, which I am having a hard time converting into US measurements, so I am totally "off the wagon" at this point. I was banded on March 26th. As of the 6 weeks post-op appt, I had only lost 10 lbs instead of the required 12 (2 lbs a weekx52 weeks=100 lbs lost in a year). The diet I "must" follow, I can't follow and though I am scheduled for my first fill on 5 June, I was told by other (American) patients of this doctor that if I am not losing weight and following this strict diet, then he won't give me the fill. Doesn't this seem backwards? I got the lapband to help me lose weight, because diets in the past hadn't worked for me, now, even though I have the lap band, I it's not helping...:smile:

In Italy there are no Protein drinks - no supplements, nothing (though I can order some stuff on-line). Can someone please send me their AMERICAN diet plan so that I can follow something reasonable? I am very upset I did not go with the traditional RNY procedure at this point. I am not hopeful that the lap-band was the right decision for me.

Please help?

Thanks-

hi there,

i have my doctors 10 rules for success at home, so i'll post that tonight. i'm middle-aged and have managed to lose 37 lbs since 3/11, so you CAN do this.

basically here is what i do daily:

breakfast: a Protein shake with milk, Protein powder, and yogurt (my doc believes our bands don't like food in the morning)

snack: 3 wheat pretzels or a piece of string cheese

lunch: usually the salad bar, with cheese, chicken, mushrooms, peas, etc. or any kind of chicken dish

dinner: usually more chicken or fish and a vegetable

evening snack: Protein Shake

and i drink 64+ ounces of Water a day. my doc wants us to completely avoid bread. he said matza bread is okay though. at this point, i feel like i am doing all the work, not the band, because i still don't get that full feeling (i've had 2 fills). i usually stop myself before i reach 2 cups of food.< /p>

hope this helps !!! also, there are some great books out there on what to eat. check them out on Amazon.< /p>

Dear Italy,

Have you had any fills? I think the carb diet your Dr recommends is way to much in my opinion.

Do you have other Dr's there you can look into switching

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
