macaulie4 0 Posted March 15, 2009 (edited) I'm a 35 yr old stay at home mom. I think it has to be the best job in the world. I have been married for seven years and have a five year old daughter. I have been overweight all my life. And I have tryed every diet out there and spent lots of money trying to be the person I am on the inside. And have failed every one of them, and myself. I don't want to win a beauty contest or look like a model. But I would love to be healthy and stronger. I want to be able to not just live life but experience it. I want to be able to play with my daughter and not be winded and sore. So after years of trying to lose weight I have decided I would like to have WLS. I have a few reasons for not looking into before. My main reason was because I had two aunts that had bypass surgery about 20+ years ago and both passed away in their early 50's. The family believed that it was due to them having WLS, and thats what I have always been told. I had never heard of Lapband until about three years ago. So I decided to look into it, I talked it over with my husband and he was/is behind me on this decision. I do have family members who believe I'm taking the easy way out, and have made sure I know they aren't happy with my decision. Yet it is my life and I have decided to have this surgery. I have not had Lapband surgery yet. My family doctor has sent in my referral to Dr.Savoie. Now it is a waiting game to hear from his office. I am so excited to start my new life and live it to the fullest. Edited March 15, 2009 by macaulie4
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted March 15, 2009 Easy way out? Pffft on your family who thinks that. I guess if one of them ever needs a pacemaker you can say "well, sure, take the easy way out"... Congrats and welcome!
hairnv 0 Posted March 15, 2009 Hello, and welcome.....I started my process in Nov/Dec...and am almost to my date. The great part about the process is you learn so much and have time to really think it over, even though you do all that before the process begins. One really big thing I have learned is that LB is NOT the easy way out, matter of fat it is going to be just as hard if not harder for you after you have it......it is just a tool to help us feel fuller faster....it still requires us to have to use it correctly, and make better choices....so let your family know it is actually not the EASY way out............you will agree with this as you learn more about what happens to you before, during and after it is put on you! MissBS 3 Posted March 15, 2009 Hi macaulie and welcome to LBT!! Congratulations on your decision to get the lapband. A lot of your post sounds like my story - tried and failed on every diet you can think of. I also do not have any plans of becoming a super model - just want to be healthier and live a longer and better life. I have a 4 year old granddaughter that I spend my days with. Keeping up with her has gotten easier and funner now that I have lost some weight. Now.... about those relatives who think you are taking the easy way out.... boy are they wrong!!!!! Getting the band, changing your lifestyle and old eating habits, exercising more, and staying focused.... none of it is easy - but it sure is worth it. As long as you are happy with your decision - that's all that matters. It's nice that your husband supports you. I'm sure he loves you very much and wants you to be happier and healthier too. I wish you all the luck in the world. Keep coming here, reading, and asking questions. This is a wonderful place to learn and make friends. Lots of support here. Take care.
