Hamburger and Fries

Recommended Posts

My surgery is 3/19/09 and I am so excited I have been on the pre op diet for almost two weeks. I wanted to know if I can have one last burger and fries a couple days before surgery. What do you guys think?

It's really best to NOT cheat on the preop diet. BUT You can have a burger and fries again! Once you are back on solid foods (about 6 weeks post op, depends on the person) Not everyone has issues with bread and unless your surgeon fills you a good bit during surgery (which doesn't usually happen) you won't have any restriction.

Even on down the road, while you may not be able to eat a whole burger and a big order of fries, odds are you'll still be able to eat at least some of each. As long as it's just occasionally (for a special treat) it won't hurt you! So stay strong now. You'll get the benefit later!

Don't do it....keep your eye on the prize.....have that later on when you are on solids again. I would not risk anything from preventing the surgery from going perfect if I were you! GL. Hope you have a speedy surgery/recovery!

I had a cheeseburger and fries a couple days before my surgery. BUT I made sure I had lost ten pounds before I ate it.

I understand! I gave into Prim Rib on the 1st with surgery schueld for the 9th. The plan had been to have it before I started the pre op diet but couldn't get it then. The first question I had for the doc after surgery was, "How was my liver?" I knew he had done the surgery so the question was really kind of dumb, but I was worried. I did it, but DON'T!! The guilt is awful. :)

from the pre-op diet we were told at the hospital here - we could have a hamburger, just no bun! lol... I would be safe and just do the meat only....and if you had to have some bun, try an open face burger. Skip the fries...pre-op diet or not, they arent great for anyone. :)

Good luck with everything!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
