I was banded yesterday and the surgery went good. My only complaint is severe back pain. I called the surgeon on call and they say it may be muscle spasms. What can I do. I am putting a heating pad on it for about 30 mins at a time and the pain is down from a 8 to a 7-6 but it still really hurts. The pain meds really just dull the pain for an hour or so. Any ideas???

lucky losers!

It may have been the positioning they used during the surgery that put a strain on ur back. Do you have a history of back problems? I'd call ur doctor and ask him if you can take some liquid motrin. 800mg every 6-8 hours should help.

Thanks, I will try and call him back tomorrow if it is not feeling any better.

I too had really bad back pain after the surgery,it was more painful than the surgery itself. I do have some arthritis in my back but I also think it was the positioning on the surgery bed that really did it. It finally got better after about three weeks. It will get better,so hang in there. Best of luck on your weight loss journey. Paula :)

I consider it 'referred' pain from the surgery...and gas! Walking up and down the hall has helped but here I sit right now with another bout of the back pain. I can't sleep due to it, either.

I was banded 3 days ago and had the same type of back problems...However mine was totally gas! That pain was worse then the pain of the operation for me. It's now gone! Thank God!

Thanks for all of your advise. My back pain is gone. The heating pad really helped. I am feeling so much better today. I thought I could not take my pain meds and go to the grocery store for some juice and Jello. WOW that was not a good idea. My stomach now feels really swollen. But if with this pain it is still better than yesterday and friday!

lucky losers!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
