P/O Diet More Than I Thought

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded on March 23, and started my Pre-Op Diet on Friday March 13. I met with the nutritionist on Thursday, and was in AWE about everything I CAN eat this week. I was given a menu of foods to choose from with an list of UNLIMITED veggies I can eat. Loving the Muscle Milk Protein drinks, going to try the pure Protein ones next. The ready to drink is so much easier. After the meeting I am not so apprehensive about the life long change I will be making. We were told if it comes from the butcher, tree, garden or the sea....in it natural form it can be eaten....I just cant believe it is only 9 days away!!!!

I would be interested in seeing your list, although I know I will be jealous. I start my PO diet today, I can have 2 Protein Drinks, 1 Lean Cuisine, any green veggies with a spritz of Salad Dressing and more Water than I can imagine.

yeah mine is not too bad either. I get 2 lean cuisine meals, 2 Protein shakes and a small fruit and small vege. should total 800-100 calories and have I think like 60-80 grams of Protein. Not too bad considering I was prepared for a 2 week liquid diet. I think I can handle 2 weeks of this instead, even though I am sick of lean cuisine meals..LOL

My Dr. says 2 weeks liq. then 3 weeks pureed. After day 4 I have been eating pureed foods. I am glad to see so many of your Dr.s are saying you can eat full foods. I was hoping I wasn't damaging anything. But too many of you can eat right away. I hope I am right. I can not do the liquids, I feel too weak at work. I just had surg. on 3-4, and I feel real good. just alittle tired and sore at the port.

Umm this thread is about the PRE-OP diet not post-op. Post-op diet should be all liquid for at least a couple of weeks before moving to pureed and then soft foods. Of course that may vary slightly from doc to doc

OK my surgery is MArch 23rd, too, but my pre op diet bites the big one. LOL I can have 2 Atkins shakes, up to 3 lite yogurts, 2 servings fruit, up to 3 sugar free fudgecicles, and all the sugar free Jello and sugar free popcicles I want...along with crystal lite, Water, and diet pop I want.

Today is day 5 and I am not doing too badly...but miss being able to chew something! how silly..........

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
