I don't really have any restriction....

Recommended Posts

Well I had my surgery on the 3ed and I went ahead and started eating other foods b/c I feel so good, and it doesn't bother me at all!!!!!!! So i figured as long as I took it and ate slow and chewed it up really really good, I could have it. And so far that seems to be true, I am having no pain when I eat at all. Has anyone else had this happen to them, I can eat a hole hot dog, very slowly chewing, And that seems like a lot to me!!!! Any thoughts would be great!!

you need to check with your surgeon. The restriction on foods post op isn't because you might feel bad, it's because when you eat your stomach churns to digest the food and that can mess up your band. You should be eating ONLY what the doc tells you at this time!!

Don't mean to sound prissy; just that's something our surgeon really stressed; he said he's had a few patients back in with slippage and tears because they didn't follow his diet.

Hey Ashley,

Well you just got banded so you probably won't feel any restriction yet. Most people have no Fluid or very little Fluid in their band to start off. This time until your first fill is meant for healing. Be careful you're still making the right food choice, eating Proteins first and not drinking anything 30 mins before and after eating a meal. It should take you about 20-30 mins to eat too. I am the same way right now, I feel like I can eat anything except if I don't chew well I do PB a little. I get my first fill next week and to be honest these last two weeks I haven't lost anything. I blame some of the poor food choices I made and that I'm not as active right now. Just be really careful and try to follow what your surgeon says. (key word there "try") Good luck to you!

I had my surgery on 2-25 and was eating salad on the 28th... ate pizza a week later, etc....however, I suddenly started getting really sharp pains in my back, shoulders, I was uncomforatable, I had a headache, etc. I thought perhaps it was some kind of creepy anxiety attack but my doctor said no, that I was over eating. It will catch up to you.... You will start feeling crappy and you won't understand why. I chose (was told by the doctor) to go back to liquids and mushies 1/3 cup at a time I feel so much better physically except for some hunger pains. I have lsot 12 pounds in 14 days!

When you eat a whole hot dog, how long does it take you ? My doctor said that if you take 1 hour to eatsomething like a whole hot dog. Then your giving it time to pass. He said to use a egg timer to help you learn how much to wait untill next bite... I am not sure if this will help...

IT took me about 20 min to eat it prolly. I am starting to feel a little sick to my stomach so idk if it's that or what?? But It's been over 24 hours since I ate it so i dont see how It could still be in my system!!!! But it comes and go's. So idk. Last night over 12 hours ago I ate one piece of grilled cheese and it took me about an hour, I just ate really small bites and chewed and chewed and it went down just fine.

I am not sure, I am 3 weeks out of surgery and I feel restriction, but I am not sure if it is more of a mental restriction. I heard alot of people say you wont get restriction untill your first fill. I know you said your tired of Soup have you tried pudding pops...... My Doctor said Wendys chilli blended in mixer was fine, Yum that was good.......Also if I got that oh man I need to chew I would eat a gramcracker. I would chew it really well and then keep it in my mouth and let it dissolve. It made me feel like weeeewww I got to finally chew. Just keep in mind its not forever you will get to eat again. Its hard I know but you can do it, your through the worst part.....Surgery....

yeah true...I've heard a lot of people saying Wendy's chilli is really good to have on mushies. I will have to try it soon. I crave penut butter with chilli I've always had a Peanut Butter sandwhich with my chilli and I'm not gonan be able to do that...or I shouldn't anyways. I just hope I'm not making a big mistake by venturing out on my own as far as trying different foods. Time will tell I'm sure!!!!

Google "lap band post op diet". Unless your doctor specifically told you to start eating regular foods, you can be harming yourself. We're pretty much ALL hungry post op, but you need to heal!

I had my surgery on 2/27 and I have lost 0 pounds. I am really disappointed. I have not had any problems eating and have been eating whatever the past week with the exception of steak or pork. I have not been drinking with my meals but I am not getting results. I feel about the same as I did before my surgery-I get hungry easily. I do look forward to my first fill which is in two weeks...I'm hoping that will help me to actually lose some weight. I really can't believe that I haven't lost ANY.

927, I know how you feel,I had my surgery on 1/19/09 and have only lost 6 lbs !!!I keep track of my calories, I walk,do yoga and wii fit everyday and nothing!! I am ready to shoot myself,I spent all my money on this surgery, almost died because of it and not losing weight. I hate to always be the "negative nancy" on here but can't believe some people can lose 40 lbs the 1st month, and some lose nothing.(scream!!!)

I got banded on March 5th and then on the 11th, which was this past Wed. my Doctor switched me to mushies. I'd lost 14 lbs since the 1st of March on Wed. but was worried about actually eating food instead of liquids. I thought I'd gain, so I've stuck to a low cal, high Protein diet. It seems to work because I've lost another 2 lbs since Wed. I've been trying mostly mushy foods but, I have ventured on to eat salad, chicken, and Pasta but I just chewed it so much that it was mushy. I'm trying to stick in the mushy diet but I feel as long as it's mushy consistency before it hits the band, all should go well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
