chelle31525 0 Posted March 12, 2009 I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself... My name is Michelle, I'm 33... been married 13.5 years to Rick... have 3 sons Ryan, Joshua and Matthew (Josh and Matt are twins). I have been struggling with my weight for all of my adult life. Having 3 kids in a matter of 17 months didn't help, but hey... hindsight right? I have been considering weightloss surgery for the past 6 or 7 years, actually coming close once. Then my husband's insurance company decided that they didn't want to cover the costs anymore. We all know how well firefighters are paid (sarcasm), so paying out of pocket or getting a loan for the cost was not an option. So I thought that I would be stuck on the roller coaster for the rest of my life... which won't be too much longer if I don't do something about my BMI of 42. Yep, I'm 5'6" and I weigh 260 pounds. Until... Hubby started with a new fire department last month. At first I told him that I didn't want to get the insurance... feeding 3 kids on a firefighter's budget is hard enough... but when he came home this morning after shift he told me about the meeting he had with the insurance person and guess what... Lap Band will be covered starting in June!!! :w00t: So I have to wait til then, but after 13 years... whats 3 more months, right?!?!
hairnv 0 Posted March 12, 2009 Can you get things going at the dr's in the meantime? It takes that long and then some to get approved with all that you usually have to do...here in Maine anyway 3-6 months.
chelle31525 0 Posted March 13, 2009 I will be contacting the local bariatric group to find out when I can do the seminar, and I am getting my medical records from previous doctors together so I can bring them to my new local GP. He's the same doctor I had 4 years ago when we lived in this town, and now that we've moved back, I'll be using him again since he's familiar with me (at least while he's reading my chart). I'm also going to see if I can go ahead and meet with the nutritionist to get that ball rolling too. Any other advice on things I can get going?
