Hi, everyone. I'm new so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I'm kind of freaked out.

Today I tried to eat a corn dog for the first time after my surgery. I had my surgery on Dec. 6, and I haven't had a fill for almost a month. (Band was too tight at that time).

I've been eating fairly normally again, like almost normal amounts of solid foods, and was actually concerned that my band wasn't tight enough.

Anyway, about the corn dog. I ate about 3/4 of a corn dog, chewing carefully, but I got very suddenly sick on my last bite. My stomach started hurting, and I thought I was going to throw up because I started this drooling thing. (Which is what I do before throwing up normally now).

There was a noticeable amount (though not a lot) of blood in my drool. I'm kind of scared and not sure what to do. Advice, please?

Did you bite your lip or somthing else or did you bite the stick and loosen a tooth. If none of these pertain then I still contend that you should call your Dr. He will most likely ask the same questions but one big note in my discharge summary was if I got blood up that I should call or go to the ER.

Call your doctor. We aren't physicians and can't diagnose you...we can feel for you, but you need your doc's advice on this one!

I called my doc and she advised me not to eat anymore corn dogs lol. She said it was simply my band telling me what she told me, and said to go back on mushies and that everything would be good.

Thanks for the advice guys, and I think I'll be frequenting you guys more often :w00t:

Yes, it's good that you contacted your Dr....I'm glad it's not serious..

But.....

I'm thinking that you really need to re-think what you intend to be eating from here on out.

I love corn-dogs as much as the next guy or gal, but there is NOTHING in either the corn OR the dog that is of much nutrional benefit to anyone, so I simply won't eat them anymore. It was probably THAT kind of food that got you into the position of having to have the Lap band put in in the first place.

The Lap band restricts us from eating TOO much food, but with some exceptions, it doesn't restrict us from eating any particular KIND of food. THAT kind of restriction comes from YOU....your MIND.

You've gone through the WLS process, and for it to be a COMPLETE success, you've got to change WHAT you eat as well as how much you eat.

I am often amazed when I see someone who has gone through the sometimes difficult, painful, and expensive process of WLS, and then continues to try and eat what made them obese to begin with. High calorie, fatty, sugary foods just WON'T make you healthy! You really need to change your state of mind. Losing weight is only part of the battle....what you want to do is not simply be slender, you want to get HEALTHY. And, being at the proper weight for your height/build is a by-product of being healthy.

So, I would suggest that you start moving away from foods like corn dogs. More veggies, fish, fruit, and less of the garbage that made you fat. :w00t:

We're all different....I got the band so I wouldn't HAVE to diet and as a good friend of mine says..."I didn't go through this to eat cardboard the rest of my life!"

I try to eat healthy and make good choices as I'm sure most of us do; but if I want an occasional food that isn't healthy I'd hate for the lap band gods to strike me dead or something. The point of the band is to be able to eat regular food in smaller portions. If that means an occasional junior burger or part of a corn dog, so be it.

We each have to pursue this weight loss thing in our own best way; we of all people should prove the truth of "one size does NOT fit all". That applies to the band, too. There are very few absolutes with the band, thank goodness! :w00t:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
