Question about fills and calories

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone. I have a question about fills and calorie consumption. I have read many posts where people say that their weight loss became greater and steadier once they find their sweet spot. My question is - is this the case because you are taking in less calories and less food? Because I have also heard that most people try to keep their calories between 800-1200 calories and that if you go too low on your calories it will slow your weight loss down as well.

Hopefully I am clear enough with my question. I am due for my first fill in 2 weeks. Just curious about restriction and calories consumed.

I don't count calories, not everyone does. I just try to eat a healthy diet, and I'm losing well now that I have restriction!

I am no expert, but I presume it is because of less calories.

I track calories, because it helps me stay on track and keeps me honest with myself. I now consume 1,200 to 1,400 calories a day. But is I don't track it, I can easily eat more than that. Right now, I have no restriction and I really would like to find my sweet spot.

I have also heard if you go to low on calories it can impede your weight loss. Not sure if this is scientifically based in research or based on observation and hear say.

Well for me I am consuming between 1200-1800 calories a day based on if I work out or not. Think of it this way. Your metabolism is like a wood stove. Once the weight starts coming off the fire will get hotter. (metabolism increases) The hotter the fire the more wood you will need to add to the fire to keep it blazing hot. If you dont add enough wood (calories) each day the fire will not burn as hot. Therefore your weight loss will slow. I am at the stage where I am building muscle which burns a lot of calories, thus I have to consume more. I started out for the first couple of months at 800-1000 cal/day. Exercise increased and naturally my body needs the food to recover. Example Michael Phelps the olympic swimmer eats like 10,000 calories a day, but he burns them off by swimming all day. Keep stoking that fire and the fat will burn off. Sweet spot. To be honest I think the sweet spot is found once we reach our weight loss goal.

I haven't found my sweet spot yet, I thought I did with the last fill but found out three days later that I was too tight. I got a slight unfill and once again back to feeling very little restriction. It's a crapshoot, sometimes I think I'll never get there. I keep to 1000 to 1200 calories a day. Sometimes I go over, but my regular physician says that's kind of low, so it works for me. As long as I'm losing or staying the same, even without restriction than I'm happy. You gotta figure out what works for you.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
