I got the Copper IUD 6 years ago and love it.

I had bad cramps and heavy periods about the first year or so. it took some getting used to i have to admit. I usually take ibuprofien right before i start my period. All and All i think its the best form of BC. It last 10 years by then i will be almost 40 my doctor suggest i get another one placed.

Good luck

Thanks. I haven't had any more problems with my birth control pills, so I am just going to wait and see. As of right now, I am just going to stay on them, but if I start to have problems again, I will look into some different options.

Hello! I have been banded for almost 3 years now.. 1.5 years after banding I got the mirena iud inserted (I have no kids..insertion sucked but I managed and my inusarance paid for it) anyhow.. I am personally very sensitive to hormones and the iud made me come off of my good weight loss I was having and I gained about 7 pounds.. could not shake it and I had mood swings.. acne etc... it made having my lapband a personal hell because I could never get an actual fill because my band kept tightening and never lossening again till I got so closed band wise I couldn't eat or drink.. I had the fill yanked right along with the mirena.. I just replaced it with the paraguard and have had my fill put back in.. I lost 2 pounds within the first few days of it being gone... so it may work for some people but if your sensitive to hormones and have a band it may effect you or not... I kept it in for 13 months.. if the paraguard doesn't work... my iud journey will coe to an end because between the band and the iud.. the band wins! goodluck!

Thanks, I have read about a lot of people having the side effects you mention. I don't think I will do it. I will just have to try another pill if this one gives me problems again. I was on the Depo shot a long time ago, and before I got it, everyone told me how great it was, how they hadn't had a period in years. So I thought it would be great. But I had my period every single day for almost a year when I got it. I also gained about 50 pounds. I have heard the Mirena is like the Depo, so I have decided not to do it. I would rather just get my tubes tied than have to go through that again!

I have had my Mirena for 3 years and have no issues with weight gain, mood swings or anything else. I don't notice a thing different, even when I got the band last year. I used to be on the pills before I had my daughter and after I couldn't remember to take my pill everyday. I think everyone has different experiences.:tt1:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
