Recommended Posts

How did you do it?

I am having my surgery soon. I have 100lbs to loose and I want to work hard enough to loose it within a year. I wanted to get advice from people who have actually done that.

What should I do, what did you do?

Any and all tips/info would be so appreciated!!!!

Thanks in advance!

Breanne:

I lost 125 pounds from 4/23/07 to 4/23/08. Went from 324 to 199. Was so fantastic to be under 200.

My suggestion is that you Start now. I lost 38 pounds from my first exam with surgeon until surgery date, which was 3 mos. and 3 days later.

The band is a great tool. It's very important to eat what they tell you to eat and to exercise most every day. It's important to keep in touch with your lap band surgeon, and if they have a support group, go to the meetings.

I read somewhere that the people who follow up with their surgeons are far more successful than those who don't.

Find an exercise that you like. I like walking with my MP3 player on. I also trikke. Check it out at www.tampatrikke.com I ride one of them that doesn't have a motor. So much fun I forget I'm exercising!

I'm also from MA. I got banded at Caritas Norwood Hospital by Dr. Adam Glasgow. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Best wishes to you.

Sue

Ditto. Find an exercise that you like and do it daily (or close to it). Take it easy when you start and be consistent. Ignore naysayers and negative people. You can do it.

I did it by writing down every thing I consumed and by working my ass off at the gym. Being physically fit is essential in this process and believe me, it gets easier and when you get towards your goal, you look forward to working out.

I had my surgery on 11.26.08 and have lost 62 pounds so far. Hopefully I will make the 100 mark within the year.

I eat mostly Protein - lean meat, egg whites, fresh fruits and veggies - I also work out at the gym at least five nights a week. Nothing major....at least 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Good luck to you. I feel so blessed to have had this surgery. It has changed my life.

Also "ditto"ing the first response to your post. Make certain you remember that the band is a tool- not the solution. Rather, you have to work your butt off, same with any other diet (lifestyle change). I made the mistake of relying only on my band instead of making healthy food choices/exercise, and have only lost 30 lbs since December 2008. Granted, my portions are smaller, but I know I'll lose a LOT more once I quit being lazy and take this "lifestyle change" and own it.

I've lost 106 lbs since 01-01-08 and was banded on 3-19-08. Having the band has made all the difference in the world. I still have a few more lbs to go but with the band I know that I'll get there and more importantly, this time around I believe that I will be able to keep the weight off. My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner. Like some of the people above have said, if I would have done my exercising more consistently and eaten the proper foods more frequently I might have lost a little more than I have, but with 106 lbs gone I can't complain. Just do what the doctor tells you to do and you will succeed and remember this is not a race, it took a long time for the weight to come on and it will take time for you to lose it.

I also think you need to write down everything you put in your mouth and workouts, this will help you know why you are losing weight and not. I also agree that you should find a excerise you enjoy and do it atleast 5 days a week but I think you should find atleast two of them. I walk and ride my stationary bike. The reason I say find more than one is your body will get use to doing the same thing every day and need a change of pace to stay away from platues. Oh and if you walk or what ever you decide to do try not to walk the same speed or miles every day. confuse your body. one day walk two mile and than another day walk 1 mile but faster. And remember your body need rest so get your rest when you can. After you start losing weight and get a good routine start doing some weight training if you can. Hope i helped some.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
