Any one use Dr. Ganta, Austin, TX?

Recommended Posts

I don't know about Dr. Ganta, my surgeon was Dr. Bridget Brady with Southwest Bariatric, I was banded on October 27th, 2008 and the results I've had have been incredible in the 7 months since my first appointment before surgery I have lost 102 pounds and have continued to lose weight. I started at 386 pounds on August 21st, 2008 at my first appointment and was down to 284 as of my last follow up on March 19th, 2009 I can honestly recommend Southwest Bariatric.

I am scheduled for surgery on May 4, 2010. This Tuesday, YEAH!! He is a fantastic doctor!! I have many health issues from a history of blood clots in my lungs, high blood pressure, osteo-arthritis, obstructive airway disease. He took me in and I have already lost 30 pounds since Jan. 6th.

Dr Ganta did my LAP-BAND® in March 2010. I had a consult with True results and did not like their approach. I like Dr Ganta because he has his own office and takes the time to answer your questions during your consult. I also chose him because I wanted the single incision procedure through the belly button, which he specializes in. Overall so far he seems very good. Be aware that the belly button incision is quite long, a bit longer than I had anticipated, but still much better than multiple incisions.

The only issues I have had are 1: I did not care for Austin surgical hospital. Had some problems with professionalism there (I am in the medical field) 2: I paid cash for my surgery and signed all of the pre op agreements regarding payment, and amounts due to the hospital, surgeon and anesthesia Dr. I gave them checks for the agreed upon amounts, which were cashed. After a month I get a call from the hospital saying I owe them $1000.00 and that the Drs office said to bill me! Some woman I never met before at Dr Gantas office spoke with me while I was there for a follow up and explained that someone gave me the wrong price for the hospital so I now owe the hospital. I say that I signed an agreement for a certain amount and made payment in good faith so I should not be responsible for someone elses mistake. Had I known about the price change, I may have opted for a different procedure to stay in budget. She then decided she was going to do me a favor and offer to split the bill 50/50, which I don't see as a favor at all. I will have to update you when this issue is resolved, as I am still dealing with it right now. I would consider this a major factor in my decision if I were to be asked recommend this office to anyone.

So overall the Dr is good, the surgery seems to have been good but the staff has caused me some major stress and possibly financial issues due the their mistake, which in my opinion is a mistake that should never be made, especially since Dr Ganta is a partner ( part owner) in Austin surgical hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
