More tests to do... I am frustrated

Recommended Posts

This is my 1st post. I have completed my 6 month diet required by my insurance company as well as the blood work and EKG. I was supposed to be having a consultation with my surgeon next but..... I got a call this morning saying my blood sugars were high and I needed to to another blood test. Actually it will be a like 3 tests within 5 hours I guess. Also, the Dr wants me to get an adominal ultra sound. I know I need to be patient but I just want this done already. I wonder how long this will set my surgery back.

I know you're impatient but if you have diabetes it can impact your recovery, so they need to know about it. The abdominal ultrasound is something I did, it's no big deal...Hang in there!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I know all the tests are for a reason. I just feel like I have been in this process forever and I want it done already. Patience are not best quality.....LOL. Thanks again!!!

I feel the same way!! You just gotta keep going and dont get discouraged! To be honest with you...it's been almost 2 months and I'm still working on it. I officially finished everything asked of me by insurance on 1/14 as far as the diet..seeing the psych and all that...after running around getting all paperwork and extra stuff they needed I finally got everything submitted yesterday! Some people take awhile..and others don't. Good luck!!

I took the day off work yesterday and did the abdominal ultrasound and the 5 hour glucose tolerance test. I must say 5 hours in the blood lab were some of the most boring hours I have spent in my life. I feel much better that those additional tests are done now. I am a little worried about the results though.....I do not want to have any set backs. I am going to try not to think to much about it and just pray all is well.

I know exactly how you feel. Earlier this week I received a call from my doctor saying that one set of blood tests was missed, so I needed to come back in for my blood to be drawn one more time. I could have screamed! But, like you -I have faith that it will all come together. Hang in there! Your surgery date will be set before you know it. :scared2:

How exciting...you have only a few weeks to go before your surgery. I always wonder what that will feel like...are you nervous...excited...scared...I am sure a little of everything. Well I can't wait for those feelings. Good luck and let me know how you are doing after surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
