Can someone please tell me if it is possible post banding to take the larger pill cold medicines that are available over the counter such as dayquil liqui caps, mucinex, etc. Are there issues with such larger pills getting stuck. What does one take if these aren't possible? :mad2:

In the past I have taken Mucinex, but with this last fill the other day, I don't think I will be able to anymore. I think it is an individual thing. You try and your body lets you know.(although painfully at times):mad2: Good luck.

Try using the liquid alternatives. Usually there is a liquid alternative. I still can take most pills, but plan on getting another fill very soon. My doc says size of a pencil eraser. Everyone is different. You will just have to see what your body can hanle by trial an error. Good luck

I use the Theraflu Cough/Cold strips. They have cough suppressant and decongesant and dissolve in your mouth. If my head aches I'll also take either chewable or liquid children's Tylenol or Motrin. I used to regularly take 600-800 mg Motrin and up to 1000 mg Tylenol when I took it - now that I have to use children's versions I tend to use 300-400 mg and I always wash it down with a lot of Water.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
