Hi,

Okay so everything has been going pretty good for me since being banded. But now everymorning im waking up shaking and sick to my stomach, i think im having low blood sugar problems. Im wondering has anyone else had problems with their sugar since banding?? I am not really eating to much, i had some lab work done to check. Im trying to keep Snacks around but ohhhhh myyyy gosh the mornings are horrible. Let me know if you've been thru this, and what you did to correct it. Thanks.

I have not had that problem since the band (only a week) but I am a type 2 diabetic and the one time my blood sugar got into the 50s I felt like that. If the blood work did not show a problem what did the DR recommend. I would guess you are not getting enough Protein or calories at night to carry you over till morning. I check my blood sugar before bed and as soon as I get up and it has been anywhere from 95-120. Good luck. Have the blood work results come back yet?

It scared me how bad i felt. I hear PB crackers are a great pick me up with OJ so tomorrow im gonna buy some. Im also gonna try a snack before bed, which i try to avoid because i worry about reflux, but im gonna try it tonight. Thanks

My blood sugar prior to the band would be above 125 after fasting 12 hours so they told me I am diabetic (VA clinic, retired AF) and that was about 8 years ago. There is a blood test "AIC" which does not require fasting because it (laymans terms) tells the history of your blood sugars which your Dr might have also done.

Up until 8 months ago I did on take any meds or drugs for the diabetic condition. At that time I had a drug show up in the mail without any comments from the VA Dr so I had to call to find out what gives. I have not taken any diabetic meds since my band (again only a week) and my blood sugars have all been good.

I am hypoglycemic and it does sound like blood sugar problems. Mine has never really bothered me when I first wake up. For me, it's once I start eating for the day, then I have to watch the clock and make sure I don't go more than 4 hours without at least a snack or I'll get sick.

You may try a small, high protien snack in the evening. Maybe some cheese and crackers, or a hand full of nuts or maybe even just a glass of milk (maybe with SF CIB), yogurt, or something like that.

Be careful of the OJ, if you are having hypoglycemic problems, the OJ can backfire on you. Super sweet things will bring it up quickly (which also causes symptoms), but will also create a crash shortly thereafter.

Be sure to have a protien and a complex carb at each meal/snack.

Let us know what the doc tells you.

The problem with using juice to control sugar is that it is quickly used up by the body. It may make your blood sugar increase and do it quickly, but won't sustain it for long. You need to add a snack that has Protein and fat in it. It is the Protein and fat that keeps your blood sugar high. When I was pregnant, I had gestational diabetes and I was told that if I dropped too low while I was on insulin, to drink a regular soda or OJ to bring it up quick and then follow up with a snack like Peanut Butter and crackers to keep it up until meal time. You may want to do this right before bed so you don't wake up with low blood sugars. You may want to invest in a glucometer at home so you can test yourself. Many companies are even offering free glucometers through their sites. Good luck!! (PS...doesn't the acid in the OJ hurt your stomach if you are chugging it???)

I was banded on 2/26 and during my liquid state 2 days after the surgery I was rushed to the hospital because I woke up in the middle of the night to go to th rest room and started to sweat and my heart was beating out of my chest. I drank a glass of juice on the way to hospital.

All my blood test where fine my glucose was at 100 after drinking the juice. The doctor stated that my blood sugar was to low. He suggested I have Gatorade prior to bed along with Protein.

I have been a type 2 diabetic for 5 years and immediately after surgery was taken off meds. Yeah

I now check my blood sugar prior to bed to insure it is above 90-100.

Moving to mushy foods also helped.

Have you received your blood work yet, did your Dr suggest any more information yet. Just worried about you. I was telling my wife about your problem last night and we are both waiting to hear what your Dr has to say. The post hosptial should give you (free with test strips) a glucometer so you can test yourself if they think your were hypoglycemic which is what it sure sounds like to everyone who has responded to your post...

I'm sure my wife enjoyed my extended deployments during my 24 years in the AF (HAHAHA) but now I work as a contractor for the AF and still go on deployments so she still get to enjoy them. I hope he gets back safely and you have met all your goals you wanted to meet during his absence to really surprise him on his return. Good luck on all the tests and I hope things get better.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
