Do you use a scale at home???

Recommended Posts

I am being banded on March 23 and just started my pre-op diet. I was weighed at the nutritionist on Monday and will be weighed again on my surgery date, and then 10 days post-op at my first appointment.

I don't have a scale! I feel like I will make myself a nervous wreck if I have a scale in the house, and I will probably weigh myself every day and panic if it goes back and forth.

Does anyone JUST check their weight at the doctor's office? Just curious. Perhaps in a few months I might buy a scale but I don't think it's a good idea for now. Perhaps that's just me though?

Feedback is appreciated! I'm just wondering how everyone else does things.

I use a digital scale every morning. I guess everyone is different. I know most people say that measuring yourself is key but personally I like using the scale. Some people go overboard and weight themselves like 6 times a day and freak out if they gain a single pount from one day to the next. I look at the scale as a progression. If I gain 1lbs. from one day to the next it could be Water weight, salt intake, Constipation, etc. So i'm looking more for weight progress over time. That's why I use the www.lapband.com site and the weight ticker to follow my weight over time. Just use what's best for you. If you get a scale and find that it controls your life in a bad way then ditch it. I would recommend the digital type scale if and when you decide to get one.

I never weigh anywhere but the doctors office. I get too obsessed with the scale. So, when I get on the scale at the office each month it seems like a huge victory. I can tell by my clothes how I'm doing inbetween visits.

I will be a year out on May 7th.

I have a scale and weigh myself every morning. The general rule when losing weight is to NOT weigh every day but I think it really depends on the individual.

It sounds like you would be discouraged by frequent weighing so maybe not having a scale would be best.

Personally, I can handle slight weight fluctuations and understand that there are many factors that can cause flucutations. I weigh myself the same time every day, in the morning after emptying my bladder. For me, it helps keep me accountable.

I have a scale in my house that I weigh myself on once a week. I do it the same time each week that way I can keep track of my progress.

I wouldn't get one for a couple of months. You'll be going to doctors so much that you can keep track of your progress with them.

I only go by my surgeons scale because the scale at the gym says one thing the scale at my primary says another. I know the surgeons scale is more accurate and it gives me something to look forward to. Everyone is different though, i just can't handle any more stress and a scale at home would be very stressful to me. Good Luck!

I have a scale at home and usually weight myself every morning just to see how things are doing but I don't worry about gains or losses execpt at the Dr. office.

I have a scale at home. I weigh whenever, actually...usually Thursday is my weigh day but it's no big deal. Oddly now that I have the band I'm not worried about it any more. I'm not dieting, I'm just living. I've "said" that before but now it's really true...and I know that if it isn't down today, it will go down tomorrow or the next. It is a wonderful feeling.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
