My Port is on the move?

Recommended Posts

Another question for the experts!

As my swelling goes down, what I thought was the site for my port seems to be moving. There's something directly under the incision (maybe that's just the wound itself?) and about 3/4 of an inch to the right is the port. I could have sworn it was directly under the incision. So is it possible the port has moved and should I be concerned?

Thanks for you help!

What you thought was the port probably wasn't. The port usually isn't directly under the incision. If your port was placed near the belly button, it is probably above and to the right of your incision.

ooh ooh! Pick me! Pick me! I know the answer (but I am not an expert). I thought for 6 weeks that my port was right underneath the incision. I would touch it, feel it, have other people feel it like it was a newborn baby growing in my belly.

SO, when I went to my doctor for the first fill, I asked him if he could tell me what I was feeling. Turns out...what I was feeling was scar tissue under my incision, and my port was actually about an inch lower. If you click on the link to my blog I posted a pic.

Hope that helps!

My port is above and to the right (body center line) of my incision, confirmed by my Dr yesterday during my post op visit. I can feel it as well as the scar tissue under each incision. I had used ice packs while in the hospital and for the first 72 hours after my operation then have been using heat to reduce the swelling and it appears to be working. Dr did not care either way and allowed it so I guess it is OK.

No worries! My port has moved a lot. I am almost a year out and the port is now about 3 inches above my incision. It moves as your body heals and changes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
