I like the Isopure drinks...40 grams of Protein, very very low on sodium, no carbs and fruit flavored. got to where I couldn't drink the soy based drinks anymore.

I agree. My two new "protein" buddies: ISO Pure Plus and unjury.

Who knew one day I'd be a connoisseur of Protein Drinks!

My doctor suggested the Premier Protein from Costco! I was skeptical, because I HATE the taste of Protein, I can not even stand the Kelloggs stuff with only 10 grams of protein. Anyway these are 30 grams of protein, 160 cals and about 2 net carbs, 3 grams fat. they taste a bit like Slim Fast without the after taste! I love them, I add ice sometimes and blend and it seems like a lot of drink! Very good stuff, I notice today they also have bars but I am not a fan of bars!

Which Protein Shakes do you like? Why? How much are they? Where do you buy them? How often do you drink them?
I found Protein shakes at costco. They have 30 grams of protein 3 grams of fat. 5 grams of carbs and 1 gram of sugar. They taste like choc milk. I drink 2 a day they are 30.00 a case

I like Worldwide Pure Protein shakes. 35g Protein, 1g fat (0.5 sat fat), 4g carbs, 1g sugar, 1g Fiber. Ready to drink, come in chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, banana, and Cookies n' Cream (tastes like Oreos). Calories 160-170. Vitamin Shoppe is the best place to find all the flavors. You can get them online too. Singly cost about $2.79, but if you buy a 12 pack case, cost is $27.99 or about $2.33 each. I drink one just about every day. I can't face Breakfast early in the morning so I have the shake and wait a while before I eat my Cereal and/or yogurt.

For a protein boost in yogurt, if you have a Trader Joe store near you, they sell a Greek yogurt under their name that comes in full fat, light, and fat free plain. The protein is 22g per cup! Really! Comes in 2 cup container. I bring it home, divide into 4 half cup servings (11g protein, only 3g sugar) then for fruit I stir in sugar fee Smuckers preserves, and sprinkle a little cinnamon in too. Yummy. Most commericial yogurts, if fat free, have something like 11g sugar. This is how I get more protein, and at the same time slash the fat and sugar content. A little off topic, but useful info if you have a TJ store in your area. Look for the carton with a design in shades of blue (as there are others), and check the nut label for 22g protein.

Dr. Rumbaut recommends to his patients Optimum Nutrition as the best tasting out of the bunch. I started with their 16-flavor sampler pack that I ordered on Netrition.com. I picked up a couple two pound containers on sale at GNC earlier this week. They have a huge variety of flavors and some taste ok with Water and all that I had were ok to pretty damn good with skim milk.

Neighbor,

I have two "duh" questions about the Protein drinks: Do we consider them a food or a liquid? When I eat something for Breakfast i.e. boiled egg, do I have to wait an hour BEFORE I drink a Protein shake (like it was a liquid) or treat it as a food and wait an hour AFTER I drink it? And since they are liquid consistency how do I get the benefit of the protein--don't they just go right through like slider foods? I know I should probably know this but I am a bit lacking in education of the basics.

Thanks for your response,

Scout

I like soymilk. here is a link that gives the nutritional info

Calories in Soy milk - The Calorie Counter

basically- 120 calories- 9.2 g of protien/ cup- no prservatives

I use a soy milk maker and 1/2 cup of soaked Beans.

I like to add a couple of TBS of my favorite coffee Creamers. or vanilla and raw sugar.

it costs 13 cents for the milk and I dont know how much for the 2 TBS Creamer. Changing the flavor with the creamer keeps me from getting board with it and s bag of soy Beans was only $17.99 for a year supply. the maker cost me $110 AND HAS REALLY PAID FOR ITSELF! It takes 4 cups a day and protien w/dinner to get my 40 grams of protien a day. I like it , hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
