Banded March 3rd, 2009

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name is Tiffany, I am new to the group and live in the Las Vegas area. I was banded on March 3rd, 2009. On my follow up appt with my dr. 3-9 I was down 11 lbs...he did explain once I am out of the liquid phase that is what I should loose in a month (not a week) which I am totally fine with. I choose the lap band for the slower weight loss and thusly hopefully more nutrients and less saggy skin. Next week he said I can add scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and oatmeal to my diet....I have never looked forward to something so much. Thanks for listening.

Tiffany, Congrats! I'm so psyched and look forward to my turn. I was wondering if the lap band versus the gastric bypass lessens the loose skin problems. If anyone knows about that please inform. Thanks!

Hi Tiffany and welcome to LBT!!! Congratulations on getting your band. Never thought you'd be dreaming about scrambled eggs, or be so excited at the thought of cottage cheese... right? That 11 pounds is a great start.... keep up the good work!! I love coming here and reading other people's posts. I get plenty of answers and it's nice to "talk" with people who know what this weight loss journey is all about. Also, the time I'm here reading, asking, and posting, I'm out of the kitchen and not thinking about food. Take good care of yourself!! Becky

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
