Ok...I will have been banded for a week tomorrow surgery was on the 4th. First few days were rough but now that Im on full liquids and the gas has moved on im much better. My concern is the amount of Protein im not getting. The golden number is like 40g or so my doc told me, but my problem is that I can't eat more than 4oz at a time. So, if a whole Protein Shake is 17g in 8oz thats 2 meals for me...thats not enought protein right? I know the cream Soups add very little and the soymilk and yougurt are about 6 grams but I can never seem to fit two items in one meal! Am I worried for nothing or is this normal? I can only have full liquids..matter of fact the nurse said if it has a bump in it u can have it...and the protein Water from special K didnt go over too well with my tummy.....any suggestions guys?

Give it some time. You'll be hungery soon and will be able to drink more after about the first 10-14 days. Then you can start with more Protein rich or just more servings/increased serving size in general.

I'm being banded tomorrow. Iso-Pure makes a Protein powder where 2 scoops are 50 grams of Protein. You can add it to Water or skim milk. I had the low carb chocolate one on my pre-diet and it was tasty. They have low carb and no carb versions.

Hope that helps.

Congrats on your first week. I can't wait to say that!

ProSlam27 is a 3oz plastic "bullet"-shaped container and has 27g of Protein. I put it in a glass of tea (the peach) or crystal light (fruit punch) and it is easy and quick to get down. I also like Nature's Best Isopure. It comes in a glass bottle and is about 12- 15oz. But it has 40g protein! It comes in punch, grape and pineapple-banana. They all taste great! Kinda like gatorade.

You can find both at your local GNC.< /span>

Hope this helps. Luck to you!

Hugs,

It won't hurt you to go without the full amount for a week or two. As you heal you'll be able to fit it in more easily. Until then, just relax and do the best you can. The stress over it is probably harming you more than the lack of 40 g of Protein each day!

I couldn't get it all in either and my surgeon really wasn't that concerned with it. And RM is right, the stress over it did me a lot more harm than good, I ended up back in the hospital twice. I'm 2 months out now though and can eat pretty much whatever I want, just a little less. Hopefully with my first fill next week I can eat even less. Don't stress! You'll get there!

Thanks so much guys...Im going to GNC tomorrow and check some stuff out. I was just so worried because my doc pushed the Protein soooo much as they all do! I'm just gonna relax and continue eating as much as im comfortable with..I've already lost about 8 pounds have enough energy to function so i guess im doing something right!

I was able to add some Protein by using the Walmart brand Cookies and cream flavored Protein Powder to my SF Instant Carnation drinks... that helped me out some.

During my first week, I couldn't get much down. It's more of a focus on doing what you can. And just remember, with the drinks, just sit and sip on it all day if you have to. That's what I did. I tried to always have something to drink next to me and it helped.

Ok..well a lil update..things did get better and now that I am a week postop I can take in more. I am able to get down 8oz of Protein drink and about a cup to a cup and a half of cream Soup. I do find myself getting hungry at night but I just treat myself to a light yougurt. So thanks everyone. Now I have just got to get use to eating enough but not too much!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
