I am from Chicago and am saving up enough for Lap Band surgery. It would be nice to have a specific goal. The last place I went for a consultation is day one health, downtown, and they charge $16,000. I would like to find something more affordable in the Midwest region and am willing to travel only WITHIN the U.S. I found Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in

Peoria, IL. They charge $12,000 which is more reasonable, but Im still looking for other affordable options I can compare to this hospital. any suggestions?

Check out Dr. Kirschenbaum in Aurora Co. I have absolutely no personal experience with him but from reading these boards encountered his name frequently. He WAS doing the surgery for under 10K. I don't know if he's good or any of that, so you'll need to check it out thoroughly. You might also try google...googling "Lap band surgery for 11,000" etc

Good luck! Remember to line up after care locally or plan to travel back to your operating surgeon frequently during the first year...aftercare is as important as the band itself (something I've learned by having the band; didn't really know that before. I was so focused on getting it, didn't really think about HAVING it! ) :)

I just got my bill and it was $44,000, but have great insurance so I only had to pay $250. Anyway you can get private insurance and wait a couple of months???

Hi!

I was banded in Topeka, KS. I'm about 8 hrs away from Chicago (driving) or a quick 1 hour flight!

My total cost was $13,500. This includes 3 years of fills and 3 years of post op care. I am a self pay too.

The surgery was outpatient and I was home that afternoon!

I'm not sure what else I could add, but if you have any questions feel free to PM me:)

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
